He's been transferring power to his military general 2nd son for about 2 years now, so this won't be the massive revolution everyone is expecting. His 2nd son is much more globalized and known to be more worldly than previous leaders, though that doesn't mean much. He is however, very close to china and closer to the Korean public than Kim-il-sung and Kim-jong-il. Its been internationally noted that his first son fell out of favor somehow and he has been doing this. Idk what this means for best korea / lil-kims big dictatorship, other than some possible changes in its closed-ness, but even that isn't very sure.

So why are these South-Koreans actually scared? I really do not exactly get why they should. Is it because the son needs to show a bit of ego and that he's just like his dad?

Is it because the son needs to show a bit of ego and that he's just like his dad? People fear the unknown. Due to the fact that the regime in North Korea is so secretive about it's leaders it's hard to tell what their policies are and how it will affect the future. The South Koreans are obviously the first ones that will be affected in the case the successor turns out to be complete batshit.

Fear, yes, but people don't raise the second largest army in the world just from fear (the south has the second largest while the north has the largest). "Best Korea" has been staring down "America Jr. Korea" for 50+ years. A change in leadership is a cause for concern as most of "Best Korea" would willingly go to war and one order could do it. Actually, there isn't much that's unknown anyway.

Actually, there isn't much that's unknown anyway. North Korea's military is actually the fifth largest in the world and I was referring to the South Korean's reaction. Sarkdog was wondering why they were reacting the way they did. I stated that they knew little about the new leader and the actions he might or might not take. This is what caused the South Korean and Japanese reactions. If you're going to link me to the Wikipedia article that states that North Korea has 9,495,000 soldiers, don't bother. The country has roughly 20 million inhabitants and there is no way on earth that North Korea can sustain half its population being in the army, reserve or not.

A lot of people are laughing saying this is all fiction, but it could come to pass if Kim's son is totally crazy compared to his father. If he comes off as calculating and cunning it might be trouble for South Korea? and the US. A re-start of a war that began 60 years ago might not be out of the question. We'll send our sons and daughters to fight a battle their grandfathers and grandmothers once fought in.

Let's get the facts straight here since I actually know a shit ton about this subject, since my Grandmother was born in Northern Korea and I have studied this conflict for years and years. South Korea has made no such engagements on North Korea because of the fact NK currently has over 300 artillery cannons pointed directly at Seoul, where the population is over 18 million people. South Koreans are very scared for both Northern Koreans and themselves because they have no idea how Kim Jong Il's son will react to his position, they don't know if he'll try to cause a war or will harm those currently inhabiting North Korea - You see, a very LARGE percentage of South Koreans have family in North Korea - Yet most people don't know this because they are too dumb to realize that the country split suddenly 70 years ago, and families didn't get a chance to exactly choose which one they wanted to stay in. North Koreans mourned the death of Kim Jong Il because they have no access to the outside world, they have no idea how good the rest of the world is compared to North Korea, so they feel that KJI was a great leader. NKorea has extremely strict internet and media - which is why citizens are so blocked off from the world. You also have to realize that Kim Il Sung was a very nice man unlike Kim Jong Il. You see Kim Il Sung (Jong's father) had hopes of reuniting Korea - In fact, if Kim Il Sung did not start a communist uprise during Japanese Occupation, the Japanese could be ruling the country currently. Sung was a very nice and smart man, he had bigger hopes for the two countries, he allowed much more for his people and took much better care. The amount of shit that happened after his death was severe, and South Koreans could fear that this could happen again and North Korea could get even worse and more stubborn than it already is. Basically South Koreans don't want North Korea to do anymore stupid things, and they don't want the new ruler to do anything stupid, seeing as though South Korea is incredibly vulnerable to a cluster-f*ck.
