Problem compiling my CS:S maps.

So every single time I make a map I get this "Windows cannot find the file specified" error. Then I will rename the map and sometimes Hammer will work and other times it takes a huge $#!T on me again. Please look at my compile log below and see if you guys can see something I'm missing. Thanks in advance. -Mr.Programmer Compile Log: ** Executing... ** Command: "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vbsp.exe" ** Parameters: -game "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\counter-strike source\cstrike" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\sourcesdk_content\cstrike\mapsrc\dev_wtf_arena1.vmf" Valve Software - vbsp.exe (Jul 7 2010) 4 threads materialPath: c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\counter-strike source\cstrike\materials Loading C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\sourcesdk_content\cstrike\mapsrc\dev_wtf_arena1.vmf Brush 74, Side 4: duplicate plane Brush 76, Side 4: duplicate plane Brush 78, Side 4: duplicate plane Brush 80: parsing plane definition Side 0 Texture: DEV/DEV_MEASUREGENERIC01 ** Executing... ** Command: "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vvis.exe" ** Parameters: -game "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\counter-strike source\cstrike" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\sourcesdk_content\cstrike\mapsrc\dev_wtf_arena1" Valve Software - vvis.exe (Jul 7 2010) 4 threads reading c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\sourcesdk_content\cstrike\mapsrc\dev_wtf_arena1.bsp Error opening c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\sourcesdk_content\cstrike\mapsrc\dev_wtf_arena1.bsp ** Executing... ** Command: "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vrad.exe" ** Parameters: -both -game "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\counter-strike source\cstrike" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\sourcesdk_content\cstrike\mapsrc\dev_wtf_arena1" Valve Software - vrad.exe SSE (Jul 7 2010) Valve Radiosity Simulator 4 threads [Reading texlights from 'lights.rad'] [1 texlights parsed from 'lights.rad'] Loading c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\sourcesdk_content\cstrike\mapsrc\dev_wtf_arena1.bsp Error opening c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\sourcesdk_content\cstrike\mapsrc\dev_wtf_arena1.bsp ** Executing... ** Command: Copy File ** Parameters: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\sourcesdk_content\cstrike\mapsrc\dev_wtf_arena1.bsp" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\XXXXXXXXX\counter-strike source\cstrike\maps\dev_wtf_arena1.bsp" The command failed. Be sure you typed your filename correctly, excluding any dashes, periods, etc. If it persists, try typing the file extension as you save it. If compiling with Hammer, check the log for errors; it often will point you in the right direction.

If you have not ran the game that you are making a map for, or if the destination that you are trying to place the final .BSP file in does not exist at the time you attempted to compile your map, this error will occur as a result of Hammer lacking the ability to create file folders. This happens to a variety of people, most often when the person receiving the error has recently rebooted their computer after a crash, their computer dying, or a virus or other possible cause of computer data/memory loss. If this happens, all you have to do is run the game you are making the map for, or simply browse to the closest file directory to the one you are trying to put the final .BSP in a file browser, and make a folder named the same as the selected output folder.

The error is generic, and simply means that there is something wrong with your map which causes it to fail to compile. In this case, you have the following in your compile log. Brush 74, Side 4: duplicate plane Brush 76, Side 4: duplicate plane Brush 78, Side 4: duplicate plane Brush 80: parsing plane definition Side 0 Texture: DEV/DEVMEASUREGENERIC01 The errors mean that you have brushes with multiple faces on the same plane. You will need to find the brushes, figure out what you did to them, and figure out how to fix them. To find the brushes, go to View > Go to brush number and enter the brush number(s) from the compile log.

Likely caused invalid solid. Usually caused by vertex manipulation. Making a brush concave in shape, or a vertex editing a single corner on a rectangular shape can cause this. Hitting Alt-P or clicking view map problems in hammer. Will likely show the offending brushes as well.
