Hey guys, I know I've been quiet over the past few months. College and other factors have played into my absence. It also doesn't help that I couldn't make a thread here for like two weeks..
Anyways, in my free time, I've been cooking up a little something just for the hell of it.
But while mapping sometimes I question: "Does anyone even play Counterstrike Source anymore?" I map as a hobby, but I also love to share them with others and see what other players think.
This project is probably the most exciting project I've worked on since FY_SuicideBomber in my opinion and I'm really excited to see how it comes out; it has a lot of potential. I'm really eager to sit down one of my next days off and bang out a lot of work on this but I don't want my work to go to waste if I'm mapping for a dead game. Ya know?
Map looks familiar heh, Kosire is doing similar work on the Ivans Secret mod. Not exact but similar :P
I've found with counterstrike that it's just so damn saturated with custom content that anything new doesn't really get the same attention it would say....4-6 years ago. Sorry if that's a downer, just what I've noticed.
Thanks Lost, as long as there's a community, my maps will be downloaded. I'm curious as to see how the new site effects my download count, as if it matters.
I'm not sure about Koshire's map, as I haven't seen it, but This ship is still in the works, the end result will have the ship torn in half and buried upright in the sand at a moderately acute angle. I plan for the entire map to be fought at an angle either uphill or downhill depending where you are. Every part of the ship will be accessible, and debris from the crash / capsizing will provide access to areas where stairs are no longer useful. My major problem right now is getting doors to open at the same angle as the ship hahaha.
I remember going on a zombie server on a boat map that "sunk" and filled up with water.
Was fun as hell. And I don't think I've been on Steam for like a year+ because I keep forgetting to reinstall in on my compoopar.
I released my first map a few days ago and it has about 100 downloads between the two versions. I also found some random Russian server that was hosting it :]
I map as a hobby also. Good luck with yours.
I don't know if this counts as advertizing (I see people posting videos they made on their youtube account all the time) so if it is, I'll remove it but this 3 part video sums up everything I love about CS:S (the people, the mic spamming and the ridiculous maps in a game that's supposed to be taken seriously)
On another note:
That boat map looks siiick!
I wish I could pump out some maps... I thought getting a new computer would boost my motivation to get my mapping on but now I have a friggen' ATI graphics card error that scrunches up the numbers in Hammer and it looks super ugly. The newest version of Catalyst Control Center won't let me disable Anti-Aliasting too (I think that's causing the problem). :(
I'm also surprised how busy college work is on you. I've always seen people mentioning how they wished they had more spare time but never felt their pain until now. Fuck sakes! I barely have enough time for porn faps sometimes.
Yeah I gotta get working on that map again. I'm really excited to see how it comes out. Once again 40 hours of work + college has taken it's toll on my free time. Maybe I'll release a WiP in the coming weeks. I feel your pain about the free time, trust me hahah.
I still play a little here and there, but I also map for my hobby.
I haven't released anything in awhile mainly because I've started so many projects only to stop them halfway through because of a new idea :P
I have about 6 maps that I've started but halted because I had a new idea :D
