So how do you like this new site? I think it looks sleek and cool, but could honestly require some improvements to look better on people with big monitors. Firstly, the forum posts are too large horizontally and eat up wasted space. My idea could be putting 2 posts next to each other and numbering them, from left to right to make up for the extra space and make a post less of an eye sore.
I feel like changing the name to GameBanana will be nearly impossible to adjust to and my tag will remain "FPSB" in Steam and I will still call this place to FPSB. RPG and RTS Bananas were not too cared for really and most people came here for the FPS aspect of the site. I think merging them would be fine, but staying as FPSB would not really affect it much.
I don't think the topbar should constantly follow me around, as that takes away about 100px of vertical space and I have a 16:9 monitor, among others who may too. I have a 900px vertical monitor, with the topbar that is precious space lost. Last thing, the box for making threads is tiny :P
Overall, it would something to look forward to and this is a WiP, so lets just wait for what tom has in store for us when he brings back the old features.
My current rating is 7/10.
I agree on the the box for making threads is to small. There should be a "Add Reply" button at the bottom imo. Overall i really digg the new layout. Its simple, well-organized and it has these nice subtile effects. for example the head title has shadow. I just like those things. Tom did a good job imo!
I'm using a MacBook 15" so i don't have the problems u got with ur big monitor. Ghehe
The layout is terrible, any Web Designed with any common sense would see this is just horrible. It's not even the colors, it's the layout and the incredible waste of space.
I can already see so many things you could improve, so many useless features, and everything is pretty much just half done, and most of the features still missing.
I really hope this is just a base and he would FOR ONCE listen to the members and make this a good website. Somethings are just plain retarded.
Try not to choke on Toms cock.
@Sparks, I recall the mods saying "YES! It's finished and ready for launch, just working out some bugs" I have clearly seen Jonny-Higgins, BigDog, and some other mods use the exact word "Finished". Now it's a WiP again?
I understand the WiP aspect of adding new features, but I am not talking about that. Adding new features won't make the rating go up for broken features that I have listed, such as the java issue with submission boxes, unnecessarily wide posts, the topbar, and change of name.
Don't get me wrong, I like the site, but I think it really was half finished and should have been halted instead of launched until it was fully tested on both browsers and we could all have some kind of way to test all these issues.
Pretty much what Sparks say'd but ofc you can rate it there just ain't much use for it since its not finished yet lets see it after 2-3 weeks. :)
Anyways rating would be 4.5/10 if the site would stay at its current state.
8/10 I think. Things work!
It's wonderful with a few tweaks using Greasemonkey or Stylish. I got rid of some wasted space and changed a few things to my liking. It's just missing a lot of things, as we all know, but things will slowly be added later on. The search also doesn't seem to work for me. Some of the text boxes need to be bigger, too. I guess that isn't a problem for people that can resize them, though (Chrome). The front page is still a mess.
I think Tom has got good things for the site here but he actually should NOT allow Banned members to post or login at the site......can someone unban me? I need my GameBanana! to work for my mods!
btw What is the short form for this site? GAB? like of FPSB.
I don't really see the point on rating the site now seeing as it's a work in progress.
It might just be me but a lot of people seem to think that this is how it's going to be from now on. Several moderators already stated that this is a start, and that in the next couple of months things will change.
I also slightly disagree with the FPS thing, I think that it was necessary to include more than just FPS games because that way you attract more people. From a member point of view that might not be good, but from a site point of view: The more members → the better.
I'm guessing that's why it has a new name...it's there for all games.
My rating right now is 8/10. It works, I can find most of the stuff that I find interesting. I dont like the profiles yet because theres stuff missing, but I'm sure that'll be fixed soon enough.
2/10 Most (but not all) of the functions are still around, just a lot harder to find and less convenient to use, uglier and harder to decipher.
This is basically a trainwreck exploding as it jumps the tracks in slow motion, and I would really love at least a way to keep using the old style. If it isn't broken, leave it the tapdancing Christian Figure alone.
It seems like people are giving it a lot of approval for fixing technical issues, but they could have fixed these issues WITHOUT decimating the layout.
Well this was very confusing when I first opened up my browser...
testing if bold tags still work.. New bold way seems to be confusing... :/
Also Preview isn't working.. Other then that 7/10, Change is nice but this is a lil to much getting used to. No more saying FPSBanana :(
HTML Tags still work, thank god
Personaly i hate the changes. Ive been using fpsb for years before the changes with no problems, im confused as to why the layout has been changed.
For me search isn't working, the new font is ugly and huge, my screen is 21.5", and the text is about the size i would expect to see on a children's website.
also, a huge thing. All fpsb links are broken. If i search into google something that comes up with an fpsb link, i am redirected to the gamebanana portal.
much more i could go into, but short on time right now. 3.5/10(slightly below average)
It's pretty awesome but my problems with it are almost purely aesthetic.
Lets start out with the base font, the base font he is using is honestly, _**really**_ ugly, I much prefer the older font over the current, It just looks too...'heavy'.
The post font is kinda bleh I'm sure I'll get used to it, but to me it makes it looks like a hipster forum or something.
I somewhat like the layout my problem is the fact that it simply takes up _way_ too much space, I feel as if I have been shoved into a corner in most of the parts of the site. So what I am basically saying is that it feels a little bit too crowded. The nav bar is ok but It's a little to large, I think it would look nicer if the width of the logo matched the nav utilities, and the gamebanana logo would float to the right of the navigation utilities. Some other things I would like to see refined would be the add reply button added to the bottom of the thread. I would like to see the section from which the submission is posted in below the submission, so people don't have to specify. I would also like to not have the sound player float above my nav bar, but that isn't so much of a big deal.
What I will be talking about in this section is basically colors and logos and images.
I like the colors that the new banana brandishes rather nicely, others may kind of feel depressed when viewing but it's nice to look at. The new name just sounds kind of awkward, I would actually like **VGBanana** or something of the sort (That is, _if_ we're going to crunch all the sites together(Which appears to be what Tom is sticking with(Holy shit a parentheses within a parentheses within a parentheses!)))
I feel like 7.16 is a rather suitable score, yes I am happy that I have all of my banana's functionality back (That sounds slightly dirty) but the layout is just a bit ass backward.
And @el burro, no you don't you go to skins, and you click the button that says newest then click list settings and specify the game with the drop down.
The website is way too vertical. In most places, there needs to be a sidebar of some sort or just another column to break up the space.
I'm sure the backend is pretty nice, though tom should really hire someone to do the layout. Like BigDog! :D
Also the "Add Reply" button should be at the bottom of the page.
Edit: Make that 7/10. I just discovered some really interesting features with minimizing and the embeddable /wikis etc. I could get used to the layout if there's nice features like that. :)
@Ghost Dog By WiP, they meant old features will be coming back. The base site is finished, it looked like this for months now, because I've seen the beta and it is no different.
They even said the "New Site is Finished" multiple times before, meaning the base site, but features are not. Sure bugs will be fixed, but this is what the site will look like from now on. Another issue is the amount of Java on this site, yes Java is flashy and cool, but it will lag crappy PCs. I'm not even home right now, visiting parents for New Years and their laptop doesn't like this new site. Scrolling feels slow and it just lags.
Though it is a good thing Tom is killing bugs like a machine, I noticed some improvements in the past hour (my PMs and Subwatch aren't flashing anymore for starters). Lets just give it more time.
I am agreeing with Ippe on the annoying fonts.... I miss the old fonts. Some things on this site are good for a start but the boxes can be so big sometimes. Sometimes I get lost when I try to navigate now.... I hope the old site kinda. Well this is only a WiP site. We will have to wait and see what happens. My current rating is 5/10. ( I miss the old site so much :( )
I think it's somewhat better than old one. However, navigating is still kinda hard and there is too much space without use, just like there was on Steam UI beta.
I don't see any problem with fonts. I do like them.
However, an option to change posting font would be nice even though it doesn't annoy me much.
I'll give this 7.5 out of 10 and look forward how this site will change in following weeks/months.
Nice to have an update at all, at least. I had a fucking heart attack when I saw the front page, and spent 2 goddamn minutes trying to find the forum. Did you hear me? 2 MINUTES!!1!
On a more serious note, I heard many missing features are back (haven't tested them myself) and things I missed like subtitles on the thread page are here. The layout is a tad confusing, but mostly because it's new; I'm sure we'll all navigate it like pros soon enough.
Biggest complaint: Login. For some reason, my auto login exploded, and going to a seperate login page sucks compared to login at any time.
By the way: have the site's html codes changed? I'm still trying to figure out all the buttons above this reply box
It's so stretched out on my widescreen monitor. Screenshots of skins somehow get cut off. I would like it if they also put the top and newest skins in their corresponding game section, so I only see top and newest releases for TF2 skins in the TF2 section.
So far, 4/10.
> Rye, It appears as if you have never used MS Word lol
(From left to right)
**H (Heading) 1-6**
Modifies font size/priority,
H1 being largest H6 being smallest
Makes text defined and thicker.
Makes text slanted as to put emphasis on a word or phrase
**Bulleted and Numeric lists**
Puts a section of text in a list using bullets or numbers
**Image and Hypertext link**
Obviously puts image tags and hypertext tags around a selected area of text.
Puts a selected area of text in Quotation I presume it to be a box.
Allows you to make a selected area not read rich text such as HTML codes and the like.
It appears that this does not work correctly, or at least from chrome.
I know some of those really weren't needed but it might be useful to noobs.
its not to bad i suppose. However there are some things that need to be changed.
Things are too wide. even on a widescreen laptop it fills the whole page and there is just a little bit i have to scroll for ( doesn't really bother me that much, its not important.)
However the floating banner at the time annoys me. I think it would be much better if it just stuck to the top of the web page rather then the screen. I'm vewing this on my laptop and it does make the page considerably smaller meaning i have to scroll more. Now i know this isn't really that much of a bit problem but for me and others using smaller screens it is a tad bit annoying.
There is quite a lot i'd personally do to this website to not make it so horizontally large even if it does fit my screen, i'd much rather have some space to the sides jsut for easyer reading and such. Doesn't make it feel as clustered either.
I suppose at least it works, unlike the older site and hopefully some changes will be made to how the website looks :)
