When twinkle little star wasn't enough...

The game looks wicked fun, this is the most I've seen of the new areas of the game. Looks like it is still scary as hell and still keeps up the adrenaline and fast paced action. Can't wait.

I didn't find the first one scary... Played it at night, volume high and all, but did not find it scary as everyone claimed it was. Only thing I found to be fucking awesome was the storyline. Cant wait for DS2

@Reaper Not even man. I didn't even flinch and I played in the dark with headphones. The only scare tactic was random dead bodies popping up. The deaths were pretty graphic and I could see people cringing over that but I still wouldn't classify that as scary. The multiple quick-time events such as shaking those tiny bugs off of you destroys the element of shock. Your mind is too fixated on rapidly pressing a button to even pay attention to what is going on. I highly doubt a player would honestly start panicking in fright thinking "Oh my gosh! oh golly gosh! Press quickly! Press quickly!" I liked the idea of deadspace and it was a great rent. The HUD and zero gravity were nice and the single player was pretty good on length compared to the super short games like CoD. But if I bought it full price, I would have been pissed.

@tsaweeos Read the reviews, the game is focused on the sound effects and using sound as a scare tactic. The button pressing sequences or shooting limbs off sequences make you panic, because you're on a time limit, especially the part with the tentacles, which you have to kill or else they kill you, that made me panic. I highly doubt you didn't flinch through some of the parts with the sound, like a random scream in an elevator or a door that literally slams shut when you're a centimeter away.

Now that I think about it, Dead Space does have very good sound. Though I hate the Hollywood effect of hearing muffled sound in space. Even within a suit you wouldn't hear anything outside of it so that's the only part where it lost points for me (in the sound category). I still can't agree with you on the quick-time events however. That shit absolutely kills the horror for me entirely. I get filled with rage. The tentacles part isn't really a quick time event. In my mind quick time events are mashing one button just to do something. Aiming and shooting at something is pretty much normal for games with guns.

Quick time event is matching a button in time, which is what Dead Space doesn't do. Button mashing is different, you don't have to look at it to tap. It's always X as well (on PS3) so you'll know to tap it without having to stare at it. Dead Space never had a button matching sequence. What matters: Game is fun and worth the money, the story is also very interesting. @Yellow, I found it scarier when compared to Doom 3 or Silent Hill 2, mainly because it does a great job with the sound. Dead Space did a good job using sounds to scare you, which is scarier than visuals in my opinion, you can use that sound to imagine what the hell is making it which is worse. The first time I encountered a divider in dead space, they make the moan of a dying whale, it sounded scary as hell, then listening to the footsteps get closer and closer till I finally saw it.

@-Reaper- You're easily scared then. Doom 3 was not scary in the least bit. Dead Space was poorly controlled and poorly written. The enemies weren't very menacing either, and the sound was okay but it didn't send chills down my spine or anything.

@YellowJello, No, I'm just human. It's psychologically unhealthy if it's impossible to scare you. Dead Space wasn't terrifying, but it was eerie enough to make your heart beat faster than normal at certain points and jump at certain points. If none of that happened to you, then that's just bad or you played the game wrong. P.S After 1 hour of Doom 3, you can figure out where enemies spawn and what to expect.

I was afraid of Doom 3. Maybe it's because I was only 12 when I played the game. Plus the fact that the enemies spawn on your rear constantly.

Yeah it scared me when I first played it, when it came out in 03 I was still 13 and I was pretty scared when playing it. I replayed it a month ago and didn't find it scary, since I could figure out when the enemies would spawn and jump out at you.
