some old maps i made

and another random idea been working on for 40 min i dont like the lighting but some of my friends do wat do you think random map i have no idea what i am doing with it just made it cos i was bored took 30 mins so far .. suggest what it could be used for i was think gungame or it could be useless random idea istarted doing dont know if i should continue http://screenshot.xfire.com/screenshot/large/25519b47caabba2dc4104f34f8828e710857b34d.jpg

Finished maps All of these maps are finished, but I will edit them to make them better or fix some small problems if there is any.

One of the favorite maps on my server, although I didn't like it too much.
4.dr_sharkattack
As you would guess, this map is about sharks. (This one wasn't so popular) Also, the second image is the giant shark that kills the AFK people, and you if you're not fast enough to get to the end.
(the end but is it????) Unifinished maps I will continue/remake some of these maps if you wish to continue on them.

    These maps are very good, Jaythorpe. I would highly recommend uploading them to the Maps section where people can download them. The brushwork seems to be much better than is seen on most of the maps around here, and the lighting is very well done for the most part. The detail on the unnamed one and backlot is awesome, but they'd be ten times better if you took the time to appropriately texture them and give them a suitable environment. Using developer's textures on the final copy of such a detailed map is a waste and completely destroys the effect you could have had.

    There's many critics on this site that would probably post on at least one of your maps giving a much more thorough analysis, but to do that you'll need to throw some of these in the maps section. :P

    Before posting backlot and unnamed I would recommend putting on some appropriate textures and changing the lighting accordingly, if you're so afraid of people disliking your maps.

    i will be adding textures and light tommrow
    im not afraid of people disliking my maps
    the reason i posted these is so i can get postive and negitive feed back
    so i know what i can improve on

    Started workin on re texture the map backlot map
    also going make it darker as its 2 bright so you cant see the other lights

    also going add props mostly foliage

    any suggestions please post

    It looks pretty good so far, but try to avoid the texture repetition. For example, those little rooms atop the buildings, the inside walls should be textured differently from the outside, because, well, typically the inside would be brighter and less worn, and most likely not bricks. To select individual faces you open the Texture Application Tool (SHIFT+A) and select just the face you wish to texture, then browse for the texture and press apply. (In case you didn't know this.) There's a few other places I can imagine it being suitable for you to change select faces' textures, like atop the walls maybe, and the top face of the balconies (or the other four faces of it).

    Those light brown-ish bricks seem unsuitable on many of the places you've put them tbh, like on that cylinder on the right side of your gun.

    Also, you'll probably want to change the skybox, because that grey, cloudy skybox does not suit the map at all. To do this you go to Map > Map Properties > Skybox Name, (I think, I haven't used Hammer in a while) and change the sky_day01 thing to another one. A list of skybox names can be found here, just play around until you find a good one. The sky_dust skybox could be more suitable.

    And yeah, the lighting could definitely use a change, this one seems so bright it's almost like it's 'fullbright', which makes your texturing look unattractive regardless of how good you've done it. :P

    It looks nice so far though, nice work.

    Also, it's nice that you're trying to get the HTML down by looking at what I posted earlier.

    Yeah most was just a test texture i just deleting some things on the roofs that dont make sence sine am already at 92% of planes

    well its going be darker also i trying to make look better having it overgrown with plants since the map it self has lot of open empty places
    i might as well add rain

    yeah i know the skybox doesnt match but i always leave it until the end

    now im just waiting on this damn thing to compile taking about 1 hour

    think am just going cut the map in half get one side finished so i can compile faster get more screenshots

    When you add cubemaps...

    to make it work

    open the map in your Counter strike game, then in the console you write:

    buildcubemaps
    ...then after some images, you write
    mat_hdr_enable 0
    then wait a sec... then write
    buildcubemaps
    ...again
    then write:
    mat_hdr_enable 1

    then restart Counter Strike: Source, now it should work properly...

    you have to do this everytime you compile your map :D

    May be while since i post a new map backlot is been a pain saying ive hit portal and planes limits

    tommorow i should be getting a server for people/me to test the maps so i can get more feedback

    Your fps will be fine just ive have everything on max setting and running 9 prorgrams thats why fps is low

    should be able to play it soon (would have been done like 2 days ago if the compilingdidnt take so long..)

    Alot of those maps are very detailed, especially the orange ones. The Colosseum map is just a bit dark though, overall those maps are great and you obviously put alot of work into them. Definitely upload them.

    The newer map looks very cool like the brush work simple but effective i think be great gg map
    also been looking through your other posts and replyed on that should continue the other map on the server looks great still some bits where it messes up

    I would, but I don't play CS:S :| I reinstalled it and played a match last night and already uninstalled it. So I cannot provide any feedback other than what I see in screens.

    Nice looks a bit dark in some area's thou ....
    maybe add well in the middle so you can underground
