TF2 Demo Recording RESOLVED - A Forum Thread for Team Fortress 2

Hey guys, I've been trying to record some demo's in TF2, but I'm having some problems. Note that I can record the demo fine, it's just converting it to AVI using source recorder that is causing problems. Here's what I'm currently doing:
  • Loading TF2 in windowed mode.
  • Typing startmovie name avi into the console.
  • In the screen that comes up, hitting the DivX Codec.
  • Playing my demo by typing: playdemo name
  • Waiting until the demo has finished, then typing endmovie and stopdemo into the console.
I then exit TF2, look in my TF directory and see the video file, with 0 bytes, as well as not opening in any video player.
Does anyone know where I am going wrong here? Thanks in advance.

You didn't do anything wrong. Bugs exist. Use another encoder, like huffyuv. DivX isn't good for Source, anyway.

Thanks Judo, that works now. Unfortunately, Huffy makes my AVI playback very choppy and distorted. Are there any other codecs which you would recommend?

The playback isn't choppy. Your HDD's read speed is too slow. :D But now that you have a working video, just convert it with Handbrake or something. Due to the way Source is designed, the videos it outputs should only be considered intermediate. Although.... if you have FFDShow installed, you can select that from TF2's codec menu thingy. In its configuration dialogue, select FFV1. That's what I use.
