Compiling Code Adjustments?

A Forum Thread for Half-Life

I've been going through some tutorials on the Valve Developer site to implement a couple little aesthetic things into my mod. I have a general knowledge in Ruby and how object oriented programming works, so I can read and manipulate with C++ to some extent. My question is, when these tutorials tell me to add and delete lines of code, do I have to recompile the code? If so, what is the fastest and cheapest way of doing so?
