help with info script

A Forum Thread for GameBanana

awesome program first of all. i have a lot of programming experience and script like things with other games but my knowledge of scripting with half life is new within the last few hours. i have set up some volume toggles and whatnot that all work fine but i cant get a working "Next" thing. i can get hlamp to play the next song, i can get it to display song info too, but i cant do these 2 things at the same time. i am trying to change to the next song and then have that new song be displayed on my screen but it will only display the previous song that was playing. my guess was that hlamp was processing these things faster than winamp could switch the song so i added some "wait"s to my bind but to no avail. i also tried stopping it, doing next, playing, then echoing the song info but still no luck. anyways i was wondering if someone had successfully done this and could help me out. thanks. ps - this is what i'm using.... bind "t" "HLamp NextTrack;d1;echo NEXT;d0;wait;wait;exec HLamp.cfg;HLamp_EchoDetails"

Right, in theory you can make it work but it requires a hell of alot of waits. This is unfortunatly a two part thing. You tell HLamp to go to the next song. When the plugin realizes its on a new song (which depends on how fast you have it set to send info) it goes and writes iteself a little HLamp.cfg file in your mod directory. when you exec Hlamp.cfg it loads this .cfg and the respective alias commands which you then call with HLamp_echoDetails. All of this requires far too many cycles to effectivly combine the commands as far as I can figure. You can add ton of waits and it will work, but as long as that wait command is wasting a cycle, you cant control yourself in game making it just not worth it. On the other hand, Hlamp 1.30 has this nifty GUI with it. Just run it with the GUI and watch the songs rotate around. It isn't instant, true, but its better than nothing, and still looks nifty enough to impress your friends.
