Oh my God!

Can this even be possible.

So here's my deal. I got my new shiny Radeon HD 4870 yesterday. Of course I went Placed it into my computer, installed drivers, etc etc.. Everything went fine. So I went to play my newly bought Fallout 3. Played it instantly for ~5hrs straight. Then the clock was around 2AM. I went to sleep. Next morning when I woke up, started my computer just to see weird squares everywhere, and then BSOD crash. I restarted my computer, still the same. So I removed the card from the slot, and started with the integrated card (Radeon X1200/X1500 series FTW) and guess what? It's normal again.. So could my newly bought Radeon HD 4870 fried? Luckily I have Guarantee, so I will get new/repair for free. Im very pissed with this, cause I want to play Fallout with those amazing graphics again! Oh well, just have to wait couple days to get it fixed.. Is something similar happened to you? Post people post!

From what Ive heard ATI's stuff has quite a few issues (although im no expert), so it is most likely that. Since it happened right after you installed

Thats why its suggested to have a good cooling system when you are going to play for 5 HOURS straight with very high graphics on. Especially for a game like Fallout 3. :/

Hmm, my only suggestion is to probably swap it for another brand - Maybe with some better specs if you are lucky enough ;). (But since you just got it yesterday this seems a bit harsh, maybe its just a one off?) My only problem with ATI is from the recent drivers that caused textures in games to be very groggy (lower than low), and cause problems with OpenGL based games - they had dropped support for OpenGL I think so maybe thats why.
    Now sing along kids!

Well, I played it with the side cover removed, so that's not enough? But shouldn't it have good cooling by itself?
It depends how well ventalated your tower is. Also does your power supply have enough WATS to handle the card?
