I Install Fallout 3, then hit "Play." Then, I get this: "This application has failed to start becuase xlive.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. [OK]" So, I re-install it, and get the same error :( I used google, no help ;( Can anyone show me the way, to the nuclear side?

    Download xlive.dll

Extract it into your System32 folder.

    That's for Halo 2... Not Fallout 3.

It's a dll file, it isn't tailored for a specific game

Dynamic Link Library. I would have thought it is for a specific game.

Well, in the file description it said it was for Halo 2.

Normally Spawndex is right. I've have .dll problems loads and have just found the first one I come across and it works.

The only thing I can think of, is that the .dll I linked to is an older version of the one that Fallout 3 uses and therefore doesn't have all of the correct information to function properly. I'll see if I can find another one.

EDIT: Try this, it's something I found in a thread with the same problem as yours. It supposedly solved it.

Right, the way to fix this is to get the g4wl installer, it should be on the fallout 3 disc somewhere, the installer should be called something like "XLiveRedist.exe". Install that, then fallout 3 should work. Quite a major update has been released and you may need to wait for it to download it, but fallout 3 may have the latest installer. If not or you are having issues updating, use this:

    this is what it says:

I am getting an error about a missing Xlive.dll file when I try to launch Fallout 3.
The file that the error is referring to is located in the Windows \ System 32 folder on your PC. Either the file is missing or possibly corrupt.

    Try the following:

1.. Go to your Windows Control Panel ( Start > Control Panel ) and use the Programs and Features ( Windows Vista ) Add or Remove ( Windows XP ) option to uninstall the Microsoft Games For Windows - Live Redistribute software.

    2. Browse the Fallout 3 DVD and open the G4WL folder.

    3. Doubleclick on the XLiveRedist01.02.0241.00.msi file to start the installation of Live for Windows. Please make sure you are logged in as the Admin user on the computer, and background applications are shut down.

    Try loading Fallout 3 again.

    hope this helps.....
