I have vista x64 sp1 and I still can't run it on very high!

Description says it... I have vista 64-bit with service pack 1, and I still can't select the very high options! Any Ideas?

Go to the games menu on your start bar and right click crysis then select run in dx10 mode tbh though a 4850 is definatly going to struggle on very high

    I can't find it ^^'
    I'm at "%folders%\Crytek\Crysis\Bin64\"
I right click on the Icon (Crysis.exe) and there is nothing to select. However, I found a batch file beside it named "Crysis_Play_DirectX10.bat"
I activated it and nothing happened. After that I tried to run crysis, and I still could not change the settings to very high.

    I don't think it will struggle. I've seen 9600's playing it on V.High and getting ~20FPS. Considering the 4850 is on a par with a 9800GTX + I think it'll do fine.

Well, first of all, vista need 1 gb minimum to run properly. Not to mention your graphics card isnt the most powerfull out there. So with lack of ram (should have 3-4 gb) and an okay g card your not gona be able to run on very high. Still not to much differnce on very high anyway so no problem.

Oh and only duo core? (sorry had to add that dig on all none quad core comps xD)

I beg to differ about the HD4850 struggling. I have one, and it tanks any game I load on the PC.

A 4850 will struggle on very high read any benchmark you can find they will tell you exactly the same . yeah maybe it will run it on very high at 1024x768 but at any decent resolution its really going to struggle. even my crossfire 4870s struggle at higher resolutions on very high .

Something weird just happened... I ran the 32-bit version, and it seems to work and THERE I can set to very high, but not here on 64-bit! But anyway, I think I will be able to run it on V.High, because I can run it on High without problems. And if I clock it a bit, something I am considering, I think I'll run it smoothly.

But how can I make it run in 64-bit mode on very high?

NOTE: I don't have it in the start menu.

The only reason a 4850 would struggle is if the other hardware can't keep up.

Have you tried reinstalling the game? It's a long shot, but it sorts out almost every problem imaginable with games.

I'm reinstalling as we speak. I upgraded to service pack 1 and installed dx10 AFTER installing Crysis, do you think that could have something to do with the problem?

I know someone with an overclocked GTX260, and he gets 45FPS average on Crysis on very high with his system.

My brother has ONE 4870 and is able to run Crysis WARHEAD on enthusiast (that would be Very High), only that his OS is not letting him.

The 4850 should be just enough to run Crysis on Very High. I was able to play the game on my 8800GT on Very High with about 25fps average and the 8800GT is worse than a 4850. I'm also going to say your CPU is much better than my AMD 6000+ clocked at 3.3ghz so that will be an advantage over me as well. Since then though I've upgraded to a GTX260 OC MaxCore which runs the game much better than both the 8800GT and the 4850.

One last thing you need to remember though is that Crysis runs better on Nvidia cards over ATi cards. The game was optimized towards the Nvidia chipsets. The opposite can be seen in Call of Duty 4 where the game was optimized more for the ATi chips.

Either way, you should be fine if you don't mind getting 20-30fps average.

Yah but when you have a high clocked quad.... xD

But the problem here is lack of ram which is easily fixed, you could possibly even upgrade your g card... but yours is slightly better then mine and im running it on very high. But if you want to spend $100 on ram just to see like an extra dust spec... thats your choice. But yah you need minimum 1 gb ram for vista and crysis runs very nicly on 2gb ram, so your looking at needing to get 1-2 gb of QUALITY ram no some shitty no name brand junk.

I have two GB's of RAM from Ballistix. I run crysis on High settings smoothly with 8x antialysing. And that's why I want very high, to see how much it can take.

I've deleted crysis, and reinstalled to the same folder. All of my settings were the same for some reason, and I could not set it to very high.

Any Ideas of what I could do?

The game looks amazing on DX 9, there is almost no difference between DX 9 and 10 on this game.

Enough said... unfortunately DX 10 is a bit pointless :\

Yeah but dx9 runs far better than dx10 i would say maybe 20% better. and infact there is quite a bit of difference between dx9 and 10 things like god rays and battle dust are dx10 exclusive. you play it on high dx9 that does not mean you can play it on very high dx10 and still expect decent framerates

Why run it on very-high when you can run it on low? :b
It would give you better FPS, lol.

In order to run it on very high, you need to run it in DX10 mode, and to do that you need to go into the vista games panel thing, then right click on its icon, next to it should be buttons saying "Play DX9" and "Play DX10"; click play dx10.

Sorry for the late reply... I've been on vacation.

I didn't find the game there... Guess I didn't install it properly, because it said during installation that there were some files missing... I'll try again.

And yes, I do have drivers for my card.
