Trouble with texture allignment

I am having trouble with the valve textures for doors having a black boarder.

I am starting out mapping on source for the first time and I am having trouble making a door. The textures I want for doors are in a black box. it looks like the door is a picture and the black part is a frame. When I apply it to the brush there is a black void on the brush. Also, I keep getting textures for models. file path is /model/car1 How can I eliminate these from my matarials list?

    To fit door texture that has black frame just make your door little bigger, fit texture, than make it normal size.

    Make your brush the same size as your door is the best and easiest way to make it fit. :/

    Sigh, thats what I figured. its fucking annoying. I would map for1.6, but source maps look so good. I haven't seen many custom source maps that arn't shitty fy maps tho.

    If you make the door brush the same size as the door texture you will automatically get correct proportions. Most dev textures have the purpose to keep correct proportions.

    Use the Developer dimensions on the door to make the correct size door via the cutting tool and then apply the door texture to it, should leave the scalings at .25 and .25 but then make them bottom left aligned I believe. Some may be right aligned but that will place only the door within the brushface and no have that empty space there. Type dev into the filter to find all the developer textures :P

    The developer texture for doors is called "dev_measuredoor01" if you look on the texture its says how many units tall and winde to make the door and the door frame (frames are good to use). Make the brush, use the dev_door texture and then align it bottom left, if the brush dimensions are correct, it will fit perfectly, then you can change the door textures to what you need and they should fit. Like lost said use the cutting tool to cut out the door from the frame, or you could use carve for that, but be careful you don't carve other things you don't want to.

    They can't because of the restrictions of the texture dimensions. All textures must have sides which are a power of two, so the door textures are 512 x 256 which makes them 128 x 64 at the default texture scale. Since that is not the proper size for a door, they leave a black outline around the door and cut the door to size.
