Alone in the Dark
- A Forum Thread for GameBanana.
So why is there no thread talking about Alone in the Dark yet? It's coming out this month and theres almost no chatter about this game, for console or PC.
Basically, the game centers around the protagonist from the first game (not the idiot from the piece of shit movie after the same name)- Edward Carnby. There isn't much revealed about the plot besides that it involves Central Park in New York, something about the after life, evil being weak against fire, and a neat inventory system.
The game is made in a episodic format. However, this does NOT mean that you have to wait a couple years for chapter 2. The entire game is delivered to you, but it's chopped up into a DVD-like format. You can skip chapters and scenes (they insisted on being noob-friendly) however, the ultimate twist ending is only unlocked from playing the whole thing from start to end.
Another impressive feature of the game is the fire. In fact, fire is one of the most important things of the game, since your enemies are mainly vulnerable to fire. Every texture is assigned a flammability rating to simulate realistic fire spreading. Fire also acts as a light source instead of using a flashlight or glow stick. See the fire demonstration trailer.
One last note worthy of mention is the inventory system. You basically store everything in your giant coat, and when you open your inventory, you look downwards at your open jacket. You can then combine items to achieve certain purposes, such as using double sided tape with a glowstick to create a sticky light source, puncture a bag of blood to attract enemies, create a trail of flammable liquid, throw a explosive bottle in mid-air and shoot it, or use the healing spray with your lighter to create a flamethrower!
The game also sports an impressive soundtrack from what I've sampled. I've actually ordered the soundtrack a few days ago, but you can hear a sample of each track here. I've already BOUGHT a copy of the soundtrack. It's delicious.
Also, this is the trailer that sparked interest in some others that I know. here
Anyways, is anyone else excited for this game? I'm unusually excited for this game, yet there's almost no one talking about it. (Oh, and the collector's edition is for Europeans only. Damnit.)
and re-editing my thread from bbcode to html = annoying lol

Whats special about this? From the latest trailer it looks like just another RE.
except Alone In The Dark is nothing like Resident Evil and has no ties to Resident Evil?
Heh, I know it has no ties, I'm just saying the trailer made it look like that, because at one point it was a over the shoulder cam, and the zombie looking things. I meant no offense, I was just wondering.
It looks like an OK game. I think it will end up a lot like Bio Shock. It will be cool and fun but its not one of those games you would really call your favorites. Of course thats just my opinion.
As for the spell check, possibly I don't notice because I have a spell check of my own.
I wanted to be an ass and just post "yawn"
I dunno. It has failed to energize me. Due to GTAIV coming out I haven't been able to fill up my gaming expenditures account, which is currently aimed at MGS4.
