Well you'll have to move the hand back appropriately in the anims because they're still going to be in the same positions, even though you've moved the reference.
Otherwise looks like you've got some weighmapping issues...or you may have just moved the mesh without moving all the bones..

Im not much of a modeller or animator myself but any advice is better than none :)

Well you see i didn't move the bones because when i did i got an error when compiling. And yeah its fine if i move the hand back it's just that it's a bit too far up the gun

If you hid the bone, and are using 3ds max, right click in the viewport and left click "unhide all".

Otherwise, im sure there is a simpler solution than restartarting the whole thing. have you tried moving the gun instead of the hand? it would probably be much easier, and simpler to do as well.

i did move the gun the hands were just too far away from each other and i know how to hide and unhide bones I'm using milkshape. I'm pretty sure the problem is because i moved the hand but it looks bad if i move it back >:l

Well, if your hands are the problem, then make sure to grab the ik bone structure as well, maybe youll need to rotate the joints to allow the hands to look proper once youve moved them.

You didn't necessarily move a bone. here's how bones work:

pieces of the model are assigned to a particular bone. in the animations, when a particular controller bone moves, the part of the model to which it is assigned will move accordingly. if the bone is directly on/in the appropriate piece, it will react differently than it would if the model was moved. since you moved your hand without taking into account the animations or the bones, it will deform whenever the bone tries to do anything too drastic. sorry. you should always move the gun to accommodate the hand.

I did move the gun and its in the right postition but one hand is too far up the grip.

So the solution is editing the anims?

No. the solution is to recompile. you're going to have to sacrifice your *perfect* gun positioning for a better hand position. never move the hand model. NEVER move a bone. if you care WAY too much you could edit the animations but that would take forever.

There is a thing called IK Solvers in animation but you can't do anything when you put your mouse over it, it's greyed out ;l

If its greyed out then you dont have any IK structures selected. And the only way to select them would be to look in the modifiers tab, and look for anything to do with IK. I have never used 3ds max for animation before though, so i am not sure.

Why dont u try and import the hand reference into 3dsmax (Yes there is an importer/exporter for 9
Smd Impoter for 9 ) And make a Whole new rig ?
The only way to get any decent animation is to really go in and make your own rig.

I have absolutely no experience in animation so i wouldn't even know where to start making this "rig".

You don't want that importer. It completely breaks down your meshes and removes smoothing groups and weighting. The best thing you can do is get 8, import it with the importer that works with 8 and save it as a .max. Then later open it up with 9.

It's a rig. Arms ready to be animated. So you won't have to make 'em yourself.

Well, he managed to get into the IK configuration. But i'm not quite sure what he has to do from there. Im guessing he'll have to delete the current rigs, create the joints where he wants them, and then animate the parts with autokey. Not quite sure though.

Lol, the only way i think you can manage that is to have that person re-do it on your model, or... maybe try moving the IK structures as a group into the right position. If you can't do either of these, then your gonna have to make your own. Sorry dude :-/

You said earlier that you figured it out, the joints look like balls, and you click and drag to move them lol.

    Dude, just start over.

You moved the hand back, yes, but not the bones right? Well it's gonna fuck up. See, the bones need to be perfectly in-line with the model, other wise it'll totally fuck up. Just choose some other animations and start the compile again. Simple as that.
