Formatting with your XP disc is dangerous. Made me lose 20gb of my 320 thanks to it's crappy working. Not too shure about the vista disc. That worked quite well with upgrading but I did perform a killdisk for to be shure.

btw, I'm confused. Can you format a HP PC by pressing F5 repeadly when booting? O.o
Or did you mean something completely different?

So, you don't need to backup any system files on a cd/usp?

Put your Windows install disc in your computer and reboot. For HP computers, you need to press F1 or F2 to access the BIOS. Once you do so, find the boot order settings, and change your CD/DVD drive to #1. Exit BIOS, and a prompt should come up that says press any button to boot from CD. Do so, and run the reinstall of windows.

After some files are installed, it will show your partitions. Delete your partition(s) and then create a new one. It will ask you if you want to format this partition, and you will want to choose "Format using the NTFS file system". The rest is pretty easy as it is just installing windows.

Make sure you back up anything you want to keep before you do this.

With HP computers, you should get a recovery disc thingy instead of an OS disc. Insert the master one and boot from the disc. It'll give you reformatting options that will reinstall windows with all the correct drivers. If the drivers aren't on the first disc, at some point it will ask you for the second disk (most likely). It's the same as my Advent (although I properly reformatted with my mates XP disc, and then did this recovery thing and had to find all my drivers myself because I didn't have the second disc).

    Hope that helped.
