Missing Music Restoration for JP & US Soundtracks - A Sound Mod for Sonic CD (2011).

Fully remasters both OSTs using the highest quality sources availabe.

This remasters both the JP and US soundtracks using the highest quality sources currently available. Every music track is sourced from a WAV rip (WAV is an exact digital copy of the CD audio and is even higher quality then FLAC.) from the original Sega/Mega CD release.

Every track uses the default loop timings making this mod fully compatible with all script mods that don't alter the original loop timings.

A version for the popular Sonic CD Restored mod is also available through the Sonic CD Restored Addon: ...And Knuckles mod. Make sure to to set "JP/US TRACK MIX" in the soundtrack menu to "MISSING". Anything labeled "M Mix" in the Custom Soundtrack menu is from this mod.

Restored & Knuckles Unlocker or [Sonic CD Restored] Unlocked OST Options are recommended so all soundtrack options can be used from the beginning.
JP soundtrack:

This restores the full, uncut, as originally intended by the original developers, JP soundtrack. Every official release of the JP soundtrack either fades out the music early, uses the beta loops incorrectly, or cuts part of the music out to make it loop...which is kind of baffling because the entire point of the beta loops was to make the music loop. The beta loops were removed from the final release due to the difficulty in getting the CD audio and the PCM music synced correctly. Since we don't have that kind of limitation anymore all the beta loops have been restored and the soundtrack now loops and plays how it was always intended to. This mod uses the beta loops ripped directly from the game's ISO before the Sega CD's PCM chip has a chance compress the audio further thanks to Collision Chaos Radio. Most of the beta loops were then cleaned up by DeevDaRabbit to make these highly compressed audio files sound the best they can. The only beta loops not ripped directly from the game itself are Palmtree Panic BF, which uses a remaster by Collision Chaos Radio using the original samples, and Tidal Tempest GF, which uses some of the drums from the 2011 release. Finally, the Special Stage has over two minutes of audio restored that was cut from the final release.

In short, this is the most accurate and high quality release of the JP soundtrack currently available on Gamebanana.

US Soundtrack:

The US Soundtrack hasn't been neglected, all of the extended parts added to the 2011 release originally taken from the Sonic the Hedgehog Boom album (1994) are here and in higher quality - taken from a FLAC rip of the album. While the 2011 release did include many of these extended parts, a large chunk still goes unused. I've done my best to include as many of these extended parts from the Boom album as I could as long as it didn't interfere with looping. Take a listen to each track and see if you can tell what's new.

Past Tracks:

Every past track has been sourced from .VGM files, the standard in archiving classic video game music, to ensure the highest and most accurate quality possible.

Exclusive to Sonic CD Restored Addon: ...And Knuckles are the following  options:

Remastered JP Past Themes: Restored using the original samples, the past music can now be experienced without the compression from the Sega CD PCM chip.

US Past Themes: Gives the US Soundtrack it's own past music instead of the reusing the JP soundtrack's. This is also available as a standalone mod.

Bonus Missing Music:

This is a separate and completely optional mod that comes with Missing Music Restoration. You can enable it and disable it at any time. It adds unused music to Sonic CD in places that lacked their own themes, such as the main menu and all six hidden Sound Test images. The original composers for the JP soundtrack in particular created ten music tracks that were only used in Japanese exclusive promotional albums and I've done my best to include as many as I could. The US soundtrack didn't really have any unused music so only one of the hidden Sound Test images has new music. When using the US soundtrack this fixes an oversight in the D.A Garden menu where "Time Attack" and "Little Planet" both played the exact same theme.

In Sonic CD Restored Addon: ...And Knuckles, Bonus Missing Music is able to be turned off and on in game.

Sonic CD Restored Addon:...And Knuckles & SCD/R Addon: Bonus Soundtrack

Sonic CD Restored Addon: ...And Knuckles adds a ton of new options and bug fixes to Sonic CD Restored, so many in fact that you're better off going to that mod's page and seeing all it has to offer. The Bonus Soundtrack mod doesn't include nearly as many features so there is no real reason to use it over the ...And Knuckles mod. . Restored & Knuckles Unlocker or [Sonic CD Restored] Unlocked OST Options are recommended so all soundtrack options can be used from the beginning.

Make sure to to set "JP/US TRACK MIX" in the soundtrack menu to "MISSING". Anything labeled "M Mix" in the Custom Soundtrack menu is from this mod.

I was using the version of this mod included in the "And Knuckles" add-on, but for some reason setting the "US/JP Soundtrack" option to Missing causes the level Select screen to use music from the US soundtrack, while setting it to Restored makes it use one of the additional the bonus music or JP tracks. I assume the latter case is the intended behavior. Why might this issue be occurring? (Posting this here because I don't want to be spamming this kind of comment on the "And Knuckles" page)

Gotta say, the work you've done here is astounding!

I would love it if you could share the lossless versions of all the tracks you've done so far, as I would love to put all of these on my digital audio player, and listen to them without further compression that gets introduced with the conversion to .ogg.

Not sure I jive too well with how the US Good Future theme for Palmtree Panic was done; I think the intro from the Sonic Boom album is cool, but it doesn't really work in the mod due to the fade-out halfway through. I wonder if there's a way to have it play once when the song starts and then set the song to loop a la 2011 afterwards...

That aside, huge props for this mod. That's a nitpick anyway, given I don't actually use the US OST lol.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the whole point of FLAC was to be completely lossless while stripping away excess data? Not that I very commonly export audio files as FLAC (in fact, half the time I use WAV if I'm not saving a loop playable with the vgmstream component for foobar2000 or just simply saving space with q10 OGGs), but I was pretty sure it was just as lossless. Though maybe you're right since WAV is practically raw audio.

This messes up the extra HUD options from CF's tweaks, like this, bc it has outdated sheets for the (Global) HUDs (which don't even need to be there) so just remove the Global folder or update the sprites and it should be fine.

I would highly advice you use all the songs from Collision Chaos Radio, and the "Salad Plain" Past Theme from the prototype for Palmtree Panic Past.

Added complete support for this mod to my script tweaks mod!
This allows people to have options for if the bonus tracks or whether or not to use the JP or custom US Past themes when in the US Soundtrack mode, all directly in-game!

Edit: In case it's not clear what my tweaks mod does other than this, it works with the ...& Knuckles Add On, which itself also adds a bunch of customization in this mod Settings Menu. It includes Drop Dash, Insta-Shield, and a few other things.

Dang, I actually spent the last two days working on remastering the US Soundtrack on my own, but looks like I've been outdone, this really is outstanding.

I'll have to add support for this to my Tweaks mod, I suppose.

    Great Work!

Two thumbs up, this is the mod I believe people should be using to use the old OST from now on.
