Version 0.7 is finally out! Took me a while due to life getting in the way but here it is, featuring new creature sounds, among other things, some overhauls and plenty of tweaks. I'm now finally back at working on this mod actively, so hopefully updates are gonna be a bit more frequent again from now on.

Complete Sound Overhaul

1. NOTE: All future updates from 0.5 onwards will be found in the Alternate Link section below the direct download section, as I had to transfer to a separate system due to large file sizes.


2. What is Sonic Reconstruction?

Sonic Reconstructiion is my attempt to completely overhaul all of Half Life 2's and MMod's sound effects bit by bit, autodidactively teaching myself Sound Design in the process.

I'm aiming for a contemporary style of sound design to enhance the game's oppressive atmosphere and hopefully bring the sonic character of the game up to a modern standard.

Gunshots, Foley, Ambiences, Creatures, Physics, everything will be redesigned from the ground up using only my own recordings and CC0 sound effects that I then edit, mix, layer and implement.

Currently the mod is still in the early work in progress stages but it is usable and makes a noticable difference during gameplay.

4. What has been Changed so far?

  • Most Gunshot sounds have been completely remade from scratch, including variations and distant sounds
  • Many Reload sounds have been redone with an emphasis on making them feel crunchy and satisfying
  • A lot of the Bullet impact sounds and some physics sounds have been changed
  • The Combine and Metropolice have been completely revoiced
  • Several ambient sounds were overhauled
  • Explosions
  • Hitfeedback
  • Ground Turret and Attack Chopper firing sounds
  • Zombie Sounds
  • Cloth and Foley Sounds

5. Installation


Download the Zip file of the version you want (preferrably the most recent one), extract the "sonic reconstruction" folder within that file and move it into the "custom" directory of the source mod you wish to mod.

    Apologies for the long delay on updates,
    I've been dealing with health complications recently, which has been slowing down development on Sonic Reconstruction.
    I do not intend to abandon this project. Updates are in progress and will be released as soon as things become easier to manage for me again.

    Alright, update for this mod is coming soon. Some stuff was happening in my life that made this one take longer than previous updates but it is receiving its finishing touches right now so keep make sure to give it another look in the next few days.

    I think you should really revamp the combine soldier and metrocop sounds. It's not that i don't like them, they just sound like they are in total rage and the death sounds are too large and they sound a bit loud.
    I am not saying that your work is bad, every part of it is awesome.
    My english is trash.

    I really like the weapon sounds! Have you thought of making a compatible version or a patch to be used with the auto loader version of Juniez's Spas12 by Shadow_RUN? On my end when I had the autoloader version of the spas, all the weapon sounds from this mod stopped (though the rest of them shouldn't have been affected by the autoloader since that only changes the shotgun but somehow that happened.)
