Source model and animation editing

A Question for Half-Life 2

No ads for members. Membership is 100% free. Sign up!
So my question is this: What program can I use/do you recommend I use to edit and creat models and animations for Half-Life 2? (View models and world models)

I have and can use Crowbar to decompile models and there animations, but I'm not quite sure what to do with them next. (Besides editing the text directly, which takes forever to get right)
So, please give me your suggestions.

Maya or Blender. Blender is free and open source. Maya is not free, but that doesn't really stop you from obtaining it if you really need it.

    I would try Blender first.

You'll need the Blender Source tools.

3DS Max is what I personally use, but Blender is also used by many people.

Both of them are free (Blender) or have a free 3-year "student" license (3DS Max), and both have Source plugins for them. In the case of 3DS Max, you have either Wunderboy's tools, or WallWorm. I've never used Blender, so I can't help with that.

    Blender with Blender Source Tools.
Also not a bad choice would be 3Ds Max.
I do not like Maya though...
