" not being recognised as line break

Question

I'm trying to edit (and compare) text files but regardless of which editor I use (Notepad, Notepad++, WinMerge itself), "
" in the files is not being formatted as new lines. I've tried replacing the text and then inserting line breaks with 
 manually and that works to get the proper formatting but when I try to replace the file again then the game detects it as corrupted, presumably because I've changed the actual formatting. I've also tried Prettify XML and Display XML plugins on WinMerge but they don't seem to fix the issue. Why does nobody else seem to have this issue after they've dumped the text files?

My question is: how do I get these text editors (especially WinMerge) to correctly display the "
" as new lines without me manually replacing them with actual line breaks?

if you have extracted the file using uabea using the tutorial, like it sounds like you have, then you should be left with [filename].xml i've never seen /r/n's being used in xml, i work mostly in JSON to be fair but /r/n's are usually reserved for strings, so i wouldn't expect /r/n to work in an xml because it should already be respecting formatting.. my best guess here is that you have opened it first in something which turned it into 1 long string and then unknowingly saved it before opening it in notepad++I would try extracting it again and opening it in notepad++ to see if you have a correctly formatted xml then.Also winmerge is suggested but a pretty limited tool for comparing, when you have it working, i suggest using beyond compare, thats what i use in my day to day job (there is a free version) and it lines xmls up better than win merge which seems to get confused the second there is a commented line
