I have some tips. Make sure that if you're drawing a head, try to replicate boyfriend's head- not a circle but something kind of long with a little bump on the side. Always make the hands huge and add 4 fingers. One more thing related to the hands, make the fingers kind of rectangles rather then rounded. Last thing in general, make the shoes connected to the shorts / pants.

Edit: Also make the ears triangles like bf's if you want.
