I decided to start this project when I was inspired by some Sven Co-Op and Echoes graphics. Additional inspiration came when I was playing around with VHLT lighting. So I decided to start this mod.



Half-Life: Second Encounter is a Half-Life  mod targeted to renew the look of original Half-Life with it's original engine, using advanced mapping, advanced ZHLT/VHLT lightmaps, alternative level design and HQ models and textures.

NOTE THAT HALF-LIFE: SECOND ENCOUNTER IS NOT A BLACK MESA DEMAKE, DESPITE USING SOME BLACK MESA ASSETS.

PLANS
I'm planning to renew the maps' look and layout, add high-quality (HQ) textures and smoother HQ models. Also, there will be a sound and probably a voiceover overhaul.
Also I would like to do some gameplay in the future.

MAPS
Maps will be remade on the basis of original ones to be more detailed and to have less empty spaces. No more boring textured boxes!  

MODELS
HQ mod requires HQ models. It should be smooth, higher-poly models with smoother anims. But not too much, as it shouln't ruin the HL feel by being too modern-looking. Would like to add bigger variety of scientists and Barney models in the future.

TEXTURES
HQ or even HD textures will also help to make good old Half-Life look better. It's planned to replace most or even all of the textures with high quality ones also preserving the GoldSrc's random texture tiling feature.

GAMEPLAY AND VANILLA-BASED MODS COMPATIBILITY
HL:SE is going to take a small amount of gameplay fixes, but focused on improving NPC and map logic behaviour only. Also, HL: Revisited is going to be fully compatible with mods which are meant to work with Vanilla HL (Like Decay4PC, Adrenaline Gamer, legacy Sven Co-op versions, some story mods and so on.

STORYLINE AND VOICING
Half-Life story needs no improvments, besides, maybe, more detailed dialogues. Voiceover should be redone including more scientist and Barney voices.

SOUND
Complete sound overhaul. Sounds are out of date completly and should be replaced.

    Would love to know more about this project. I've been modding classic games, and these tools helped me achieve most of my goals:
    • BigJPG (for upscaling images, removing noise, etc.)
    • Pixlr X (for texture editing, pretty interesting tool)

  • Dude....this already looks/sounds AWESOME! The picture looks amazing and from what you said on what you plan on doing, I can already tell that many Half-Life fans from around the globe will be smiling. I do have one question though, Will the Manta Ray be given a proper model with animations or will it stay a floating triangle? sorry if it's too much to ask right now, I'm just really liking the look of this so far, have a wonderful day!

    That Gargantua tells me something. I feel there should be some additional alternate levels. For example, there will be a Gargantua chapter where you run into a large-scale level divided into 4 major parts where you enter and see the majority of the destruction the monster has left behind. You hear it's stomping and roars which tell you that you need to avoid him as best as possible as you walk through some of the destroyed areas which the Garg previously was in, and the possible route it may have entered the area. Your task is to evade the creature as much as possible but not killl it, you are to sneak and hide as it remains on high alert, trailing your scent the further you go into the level. There should be sequences where the Garg attempts to hinder your escape by obviously trying to kill you, by crumbling platforms, lobbing flying cinder, rebar, containers and concrete at your face, blowing stuff up and even going as far as flushing ventillation systems with flames from it's pincer flamethrowers. The level would require ultimate skill seeing how the Garg would be this unpredictable. You can also make the mod have it's own levels similar to the Half-Life ones but still canon to the storyline and with some crossovers.

    from my point of view, it would be better to dedicate time to the maps, since there are many models and sounds (one on exploitation in models).

    I clarify that I am using a translator.

    interesting tho i wonder will the map layouts be the same as vanilla or will they be tweaked in some way?

    right now thanks to this im thinking of what Black Mesa maps would look like in the gold source engine using gold source assets pushing the old venerable engine past it limits.

    really good voi. when this come out i wish i can play on my low end potato (?)
    i think if you want to make a really good hl mod need to remake all of them and make the game more enjoyable not just shoot everything than moves and making speedruns with the large jump module

    by inself. the half life experience is very fast, i say you got the 375
    and you can one kill the soldiers and you are inmortality literaly with your protection suit.

    i think for make this more enjoyable is to make the gameplay a little slower, rewarding the player for being searching any thing and using other metodes for combat or just calm situations
