Maybe it's not really controversial poll if compared with some polls about religion or politics. But some people says that porting content help them creating some cool mod while the other says that it is lack of creativity. So, what yo you think about porting content especially from another games/engines? Agree or disagree? Sorry for some grammar mistakes (seems that my grammar skill is not improved at all)
P.S: I'm asking about porting content from game developers (ex. Dice, Activision, Treyarch, etc.)

Tbh, you sometimes don't need much creativity to make a good mod, sometimes you do, in my opinion. The bad side of porting is people who don't credit properly or do it very poorly.

Provided that the end product is done in a decent manner, I'd not object to that.

I actually have no qualm over this issue, as long it's allowed by the source.

In fact, I do use some guns ported from COD or Battlefield or anywhere else, like the Skorpion EVO or the Stoner 63, because you don't see those anywhere here.

While CSGO and MW2 skins are also ported skins and are allowed, it's just the large volume of these that's unsettling. It's just too much IMO.

I'll always agree with porting content so long as copyrights are taken into consideration and it is done properly or done under satisfactory quality. Personally, I'd like to do things from scratch as I understand what I make from the start rather than adjusting someone else's content which I might not be informed on all crucial details.

Looking at my content is pretty obvious how I feel about it.

I think it's a great way to express fandom and appreciation for the art form of one's favorite game in another video game environment.  Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Ethically I see nothing wrong with it.  In the USA the 'Fair Use' clause of copyright law sums it up nicely.  No copyright holder is going to lose money over such a thing as exporting 'bits & pieces' of their game.  In fact, exports are the best form of free advertising a company/game can hope for.

For example.  I ended up getting "Homefront" on Steam because of export mods of it's weapons into CS:S.  Otherwise, I would have never developed an interest in it.

There's something to be said for creating content from scratch though.  Like the difference between a 'home cooked meal', with exports more like 'burger at the drive thru.'  I enjoy both, but one is more special. ;)

It's nice to see ports from various games. I'd love to see someone port stuff from LoS:Vietnam to cs 1.6 (though i dont know if they allow porting).

But I'm tired of seeing trillions of csgo ports. Now THAT's uninspired and unoriginal.

Does it even matter though? The most downloaded skins are practical = red and blue player models, AWP with a crosshair, HLTV models, whereas the most rated skins have something to do with cs:go.
