I know how big the video game industry is today, at least since 1982 (when the first video game crash happened), but do you think that a second one is possible?

I wish. I want to see this industry burn down and rise back up better than before.

Not happening soon though. Perhaps, maybe in 30 years or so. People will stop buying the same old call of duty and battlefields, will eventually get bored of csgo and etc - forcing developers to really think up of something new and good.

Honestly, I kind of doubt it.

In the 80's, video games were treated as nothing more than toys and really only kids or teens were into them. (or at least were the targeted demographic)

Now, video games have opened up to much more audiences. Whether it be the families who are just looking for a small pastime, to the competitive players who treats gaming as a sport.

Not to mention that gaming is one of the more popular topics on the internet, the highest subscribed Youtube channel right now is PewDiePie, who got popular from just making gaming videos.

Video games dying out, as popular they are right now, would probably be as bad as having
    TV shows die out.

This is just what I think though, and it could be possible. I just thinks it's very unlikely given the circumstances.

I really just feel that if it will happen, it's once again Valve who's going to do it.

They haven't released a new IP for decades, just as they had done between some of their older popular titles... I except them to do nothing less. Think about why else they are just updating existing IP's: Because nobody currently really needs something else.

Millions of players are satisfied with GO and Dota2. If they are to release anything new, it (as usual for them) has to shake the entire industry and turn it around again. I don't see it happening with any other company.

    I hope it won't happen.

Or even if it will happen, I hope it will pass and that shitty companies will stop adding god damn DLCs.

it is inevitable really as a good majority of AAA developers are only making games to milk casual players of their cash via DLCs and micro transactions.

Its only a matter of time before the consumer base as a whole gets fed up and outright boycots them and their products because of their blatant greed and half assed lazy development.

And dont get me started on the amount of political correctness and SJW bullshit being forced onto us in all mediums be it films, games, politics, exc exc. Its only a matter of time before people get utterly sick of this shit and simply turn away.

As it stands mods and indi developers are the gaming industries only hope left now as they are the only people left who are truly passionate about their games as an art form.

I think it's possible. There's a torrent of new games now, the game engines are now free and big budget games are getting regularly snubbed (COD, EA games, AC, etc).

It is possible, but very unlikely to happen.
