GameSpy goes offline, Crysis multiplayer to end!
- A News for Crysis 2
In a statement issued on Friday, Crytek, the developers of the popular Crysis franchise announced that they would be ending multiplayer support for the PC versions of Crysis 1 and 2 at the end of the month!
This is due mostly to the closure of the 3rd party GameSpy network used to host and manage the PC servers for Crysis 1 and Crysis 2 as well as approximately 800 other "older" titles from various developers.
Although Crysis Publisher, EA has already confirmed that they will be continuing online support for the Battlefield franchise, a Crytek employee broke the news that the same can not be said for the Crysis franchise which EA also owns.
> As of May 31 this year, the multiplayer modes in Crysis and Crysis 2 for PC will no longer be playable. The conclusion of online multiplayer support comes as a result of GameSpy Technology shutting down all their hosting services. GameSpy have been providing multiplayer functionality for Crysis and Crysis 2 since they launched. The single-player campaigns in both games are unaffected by this transition, and the multiplayer mode in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 versions of Crysis 2 remain playable. - Crytek
Needless to say, many gamers have been outraged by this! After all, Crysis 2 was only just released in 2011! With many gamers feeling that they shouldn't expect that any game be crippled so soon after release, let alone one that they had paid full price for only a few years ago!
In response to this an online petition was set up on our sister site GamePetitions.com which has already gathered a lot of support in the few hours it has been up! If you own Crysis, or just generally disagree with companies who neglect to update and support their older titles then I implore you to consider signing!
Its a good one but the game suits well for SP mode assumingly more well than the other. One reason is the off balance characters by which one is more superior to the other. The game should have an arena or CQB maps included for that purpose with at least one group of enemy that could match that nano suit.
GameSpy going off won't be the end of the game's life cycle, unlike some of the other services (WoN, EA cutting MP servers, etc). GameSpy was just a glorified server browser. So yeah, just like Kosai said - someone will roll out a new protocol or easy method to get people playing.

cod4(2007) : +3000 servers online
cnc3(2007) : +50 concurrent players
bf2(2004) : +1000 servers(ballpark figure)
nfs porsche unleashed(2000) : +20 concurrent players(they play every weekend)
Oh and don't even count cs 1.6 and dota 1 players.

To say that old games belong to the past and indicating that they shouldn't be touched, merely because there are 'new games' is completely ridicilous and has no valuable point to take seriously whatsoever. I'd rather play the first Far Cry again then some of the newest games which are really bad in my opinion.

Wow, calm down there buddy. No need to get so heated.
All the games you mention are rather old and yes, I played them all. And even though they are a great games, they are just old. You just have to move on and accept the fact that there are plenty od newer games that are Worth your time, there is no point in living in the past.
And I think that we would both agree that MP middlewears should be included in games because of problem like this. As I said, it's just devs being Lazy or being paid for having duch crap.
