Thanks to all the mapcore folks that helped playtest the map.
Brilliant work, Ted. The theme is very nice and well chosen, then again, I’m a sucker for Italy :)
The overall setup is well executed and laid from brushwork, props usage, displacements to minute detailing and ambient lighting.
T spawn is iconic and the pier/shore replication is very nicely done. The vastness and relaxation in this site are commendable.
Few issues that I noted and relaying them to your attention.
The map is nicely optimized with func_detail, skybox, displacements and props fading as well as areaportals; however couple of locations were dropping due to over rendering (T spawn being a good example). Your hint system will need some tweaking to further separate areas and reduce visibility. Your streets layout is perfect for some angular corner hints. Many other areas (like bombsite A) could use 1-2 additional hints to cut the large area in smaller visleaves to avoid extension over other areas (and over-rendering). Adding couple more areaportals will also be welcome (example in lower ramp leading to B or wine cellar).
A small issue with some props fading too soon thus revealing the void behind them (an example is the door in mid; coming from T spawn, stand next to the white hatchback and look at the door with wood barrel and you will see the skybox behind since the door faded too early).
This is nitpicking but it would have been better to have a catchy Italian name for the map ;) but fuel should be fine for the competition.
Great work; keep it up and good luck for the contest.
