1. Nightmare Mode

NIGHTMARE MODE

This mod is an attempt to give Zelda breath of the wild a higher difficulty, making enemies harder, nerfing some of links abilities and enhancing others, to change the way u engage combat.

Inspired by the dark souls series, and the end game mod I've decided to change every enemy in-game to take make'em a fun obstacle, an engaging and though challenge where you'll need to master all the abilities the game gives u, from combat skills to food.

I'm aiming this mod to people like me that loves a good fight, and a good challenge, people that love Zelda and BOTW but don't like it's difficulty and have been playing for so long that enemies have become kinda boring since they are not really a challenge.

This is just the start, a taste, a first edition, an alpha/beta version whatever XD, there is bound to be some glitches and weird moments, but ill be working to improve it a much as I can, and as I put out more enemies ill update the others with what I learn.

ArcAngelofJustice has taught me a lot, and is who made The End Game mod, my favorite mod and the reason I got into modding BOTW, 
CEObrainz for a lot of tutorials, a lot of help, and teachings for WildRunning and this. 
Hollo helped me find some stuff and is the creator of Hyrule Rebalance, Wich I'm using with his permission for reference to include some of its Features into Nightmare Mode
Elumon helped me with a lot of playtesting for all my projects, also gave ideas, and laughs XD. So Many thanks to all of them and many others in this community.

2. Player:



Poise: Resistance to hits stun's meaning u won't be blown away except by really hard hits or explosions.

Recovery: 
Faster get up time after being blown away.

Auto-Heal: Half a heart every 30 seconds, to take a bit of the edge from harder enemies power and help u not rely on food only for heal but more for boosts, is not too much but it can save u in certain situations, to get a full 30 hearts heal would take u 30 real minutes, and getting taking damage will reset the timer.

Fast Flurry Rush: Much less slow time, which makes the flurry rush trigger window smaller, to make fights more dynamic and fast, no changes were made to the actual flurry rush meaning u will get the same amount of hits as always because u will need it.

Guardable Angle: Reduced, to make shields less reliable and so u won't be able to just stand and block hits coming from directions where the shield can't cover.

Faster Large swords swings and Slower spin attack: This is to improve the DPS ratio between small and large swords attacks, also to make you not rely too much on the spin attack, I made the setup a bit slower, but it is still spin to win.

Champions Abilities:

All Have only 1 charge now.


Cooldown: From 24min (8min after DLC) to 21min (7 after DLC)
Changes: now it only recovers 2 extra hearts and half an extra stamina bar.


Cooldown: Same 6min (2 after DLC)
Changes: About 50% higher, faster trigger time, faster wind, and u can let go of it faster to use it in combat to get out of an attack or to do a shock wave fall attack.

Original:                               New:



Cooldown From 12 min (4 after DLC) to 9 min (3 after DLC)
Changes triggering the ability now needs double the stamina meaning 3 charges of a charge attack.


Cooldown: From 18 min (6 after DLC) to 9 min (3 after DLC)
Changes: nothing yet. 

I realize there are already a lot of Player and champions abilities mods, this is just my take on to make them more balanced and once I learn how to I want to nerf and improve them as much as possible. So wait for more.

3. Lynels:



This is the main part of the mod and what I plan to do to every enemy in Botw, again this is just a first edition so there still a lot I can do with the Lynels alone but I will leave it for an update, so i can put out some other enemies first.

- The Lynel's now have Faster movement, attacks, reactions, recovery, etc. 
- They are much more aggressive.
- The timing between some attacks has been changed.
- Now, most attacks have guard break, meaning u can't just sit and block everything.
- Now they have one non-block/parry able attack and one non-Dodge able attack.
- Their life was reduced by 1000 points on every rank and 1500 on gold ones.
- No changes made to power yet so they still have power spikes between ranks especially gold ones.
- No changes were made to bow attacks animations or ai yet.

General behavior and suggestions to fight with the new enemy improvements:

The only time I'm doing this, for future enemies I'll leave the learning how to u guys.
Sword & Shield Lynels:
Will attack Fast and leave u little time to react and counter-attack, so use your abilities to do the same to him.
Giant Club Lynels:
Not as Fast as S&S Lyniels but faster than before, their attacks will break ur guard and damage u with their shock waves, keep ur distance when u need to and don't be greedy whit ur hits.
Spear Lynels: 
Will keep their distance from u and try to get u with gap closers and range attacks, find their openings to strike before they back off.


4. Hinox:



- The Hinox's now have Faster movement, attacks, reactions, recovery, etc.
- They are much more Aggressive and Harder to sneak upon.
- Their HP and Power was upgraded from:
Red = 600 to 1500 HP - 24 to 30 Power.
Blue = 800 to 2000 HP - 48 to 50 Power.
Black = 1000 to 2500 HP - 72 to 70 Power.
- Certain Type of weapons do more damage than others.
- They now have better elemental Resistance.

5. Molduga:



This one was fun to make but also disappointing, looks like Nintendo put some kind of safety barrier on the Molduga that makes it very easy to beat, I wasn't able to remove this but I was able to change some stuff that can change the way u fight him:

- The Molduga's now have Faster movement, attacks, reactions, recovery, etc.
- They are much more Aggressive and Harder to sneak upon.
- Their HP and Power was upgraded from:
Molduga = 1500 to 2000 HP - 60 to 40 Power
Molduking = 1500 to 2300 HP - 100 to 60 Power
- Certain Type of weapons do more damage than others
- Its Poise was moved around to make it Beatable without any bomb arrows. (Challenge)

Little Plus: Not what this mod is about, but, I gave the Molduking a drop since I found it was odd that he doesn't drop any Molduga parts on vanilla.

6. Talus:



¡¡Beware Of Rocks!!


- TheTalus now has Faster movements, attacks, reactions, recovery, etc.
- They are much more Aggressive.
- Their HP and Power was upgraded from:
- Junior = 300 to 700 HP - 24 to 20 Power
- Middle =  600 to 1200 HP - 48 to 40 Power
- Fire & Ice = 800 to 1500 HP - 60 to 50 Power
- Rare = 900 to 1800 HP - 60 Power
- Titan = 1600 to 2000 HP - 60 to 80 Power
- Pebblit = N 16 to 20 Power - F&I 16 to 30 Power
- Certain Type of weapons do more Damage and Stun than others
- Its Poise was moved around to make it Beatable without any bomb arrows. (Challenge)

All Taluses now will Split into Mini-T's and Chuchus,

7. Stal:



!Be Careful at night¡

This pack includes Stalnox, and Cursed heads Full Pack, and some basic improvements for The StalsBokos, Lizals, And Mobs :

- The Stalnox has the same improvements as the Hinox's but they are Faster and Stronger.
- They are much more Aggressive.
- Their HP and Power was upgraded from:
- 1000 to 2500 HP - 60 to 80 Power
- And also will Drop a Big Chuchu at death

- The Stals Boko, Lizal, and Mob have, Basic improvements to avoid making the normal enemies a joke while I get to modding them, so the full pack for this 3 enemies will come with the common enemies pack, For now:
- They are much more Aggressive.
- Their HP and Power was upgraded from:
- Stalkoblin = 1hit to 1-2hits (before breaking) HP - 0 to 10 (+ weapon) Power
- Stalsfos =  1hit to 1-3hits (before breaking) HP - 10 to 15 (+ weapon) Power
- Stalmob = 2hits to 2-4hits (before breaking) HP - 10 to 20 (+ weapon) Power
- Their poise was modified to make them Harder to break apart and kill.
- When killed, the Stal's heads will Drop a Cursed Head.

- The Cursed heads now have Faster movements, attacks, reactions, recovery, etc.
- They are much more Aggressive.
- Their HP and Power was upgraded from:
- Boko Head= 1 to 20 HP - 8 to 10 Power
- Lizal Head=  1 to 30 HP - 12 to 15 Power
- Mob Head= 30 to 40 HP - 16 to 20 Power
- When killed, Each cursed head ill Drop a Small Chuchu.

8. Yiga:


New Yigas Nightmare mode pack comes with new cool improvements to the Yigas enemies, Quest, And Boss!!

To be honest, I tried a lot of stuff with the Yigas and wasn't able to do most of it, but I think they are much better now and I hope u guys enjoy it.

Don't talk to strangers...
NPC Yigas And Archers:
- Starting with the Lil Yigas, They are now Faster, and Stronger, they also Attack and React much more Aggressive.
- Their HP and Power was upgraded from:
- Blade Yiga = 64 to 200 HP - 8 + W to 15 + W Power
- Bow Yiga = 72 to 150 HP - 0 + W to 15 + W Power

Beware, fool, the eye of the Yiga.
Blademaster:
- Yiga Blademaster's are now Faster, and Stronger, they also Attack and React much more Aggressive.
- Their HP and Power was upgraded from:
- Hideout Blademaster = 600 to 400 HP - 10 + W Power
- Spawn Blademaster = 400 to 500 HP - 10 + W Power
- Quest Blademaster = 400 to 800 HP - 20 + W Power

Hideout Changes:
This part was very fun to make and I think it's better now, more challenging, and actually a fair fight.

- The Scout Blademasters: Have improved awareness, so now they can see and hear you very easily, they move Faster and react Faster.
- I Removed the instant kill and Death from this part of the game. (So now u cant Sneak Kill Blademasters unless you have a really strong weapon, and they cant one-shot you either unless you are not prepared for the fight.)

Now, Prepare yourself!
Kohga:
Nintendo decided to make this guy a joke and he still is, still, I'm happy to say his a murderous joke now. 
The gimmick of the fight wasn't changed but he will Move, React, and Attack much Faster.
The Timing and your reactions on every phase have to be better than before or HE WILL KILL YOU!
- His HP and Power was upgraded from:
- 300 to 700 HP - RockBalls  12 to 20 - IronBall 16 to 40 Power

Yiga Spawns:
- The Archer and Blademaster Spawning in the overworld now spawn in groups not only one.
Archers = from 1 to 2 - 4
Blademaster = from 1 to 1 - 3

9. Chuchus:

- They are now are Faster and much more Aggressive.
- they can chase u and clear big distances with their jump and speed.
- bigger Chuchus are slow and though to even move, little Chuchus are fast and annoying but veeeery squishy.
- Elementals now recharge faster and their shock wave has a slightly bigger radius. ( this is to make food, elemental resistance, and other stuff you'll have to check yourself into something actually useful and that you can take advantage off without felling is a waste, or that is gonna make u to op)
- Their HP and Power was upgraded from:
Junior Normal  3, Elemental 12 to 20 HP - 1 to 10 Power
Middle = 20 to 60 HP - 3 to 30 Power 
Senior = 48 to 100 HP - 4 *sigh* to 50 Power

The Chuchus will Split on death, the number of spawns depends on their ranks. and some enemies will drop some Chuchus (talus and Stals) depending on their size.

my reason for making enemies drop Chuchus and make the Chuchus split, was to make'em feel like a variation of the malice pools eyes, and so for me, it made sense that they would form rock monsters or make enemies skeletons come back to life to hunt Link by controlling them like a parasite. 

Thanks to jupiterhb who help me make a new skin for the Chuchus my vision makes a bit more sense,

Here, is a peek of the new skin but I recommend u check it out in-game urself

the skin comes included in the enemies full pack 8 and as an optional pack for the full pack 7 and also separated on separated bnps inside the pack.rar file.

enjoy it, ill be going back to update the Lynels before working o the next enemies since it has been kind of a challenge and its very annoying to test on Wii u so please patience I want this mod more than anyone so I'm doing my best to finish it with the tools I have but also been working on some non-BOTW stuff.

10. Recommendations:


Mods:
End Game, my mode is based on this mod, which makes the last boss fight into an epic experience.
Hyrule Rebalance, some enemy features that will be included in mine, and much more.
WildRunning, another mod of mine improving the movement of the player, and all Nightmare mode packs were tested with WildRunning on all the time.

This mods need to be installed with BCML and should be placed in the lowest priority, for example:
100 HyRe
101 Wildrunning
102 Nightmare mode 
and so forward with smaller mods.

Feedback is very important to me to know how to improve this mode so go ahead, but please test the mod for a while before commenting, and don't ask me to make it easier because that I won't do, this mod is to give players a real challenge beyond enemy health regen and an overpowered new color enemy.

This mod was tested on normal and master mode, and eventually, it will be meant to be played on normal mode since the enemy's health regen just makes everything unnecessarily harder.
So yeah, Git Gud as we say on dark souls, and

  • Is there a way to slow down speed, or decrease baby talus health? They are much too fast to be as tanky as they are, imo.

    Other than that, this mod is amazing. Playing with SotW, End Game, HyRe, and this as the core change mods. Spectacular mod

    This mod is incredible, but when I encountered a disguised yiga, the game just kinda got stuck in an infinite loading screen... There was a little loading symbol on the bottom left and it would never change from the yigas face. time would still pass in game but I couldn't do anything but alt f4

    Great mod but few complaints;

    NPC Yigas have some unreasonable attacks, like the one where they teleport. It's unavoidable/unblockable outside of Daruk's protection.

    Cursed Heads are bit too aggressive.

    Pebblit move way too fast. 

    Some Lynel moves never seem to hit you.

    Otherwise great mod!

    Is there any way to fix the sneak attack cheese? Like when you attack someone when they are sleeping, they turn around and you can attack them again from the back and repeat till they die.

    For anybody having doubts about the regen ability, it really helps if you also install the mod "No pause during combat". That way, the regen becomes a part of combat since you can't heal in the middle of fighting imo.

    I love the HP regen mod, but it seems like hearts restore even if the game is paused, which I doubt is intentional. Idk if its from interference with another mod, but is there a way to fix this?

  • I think this sounds like a cool mod but the health regen makes any new difficulty you are working on pretty much pointless, you may want to consider a version with that feature disabled. Think about it... you complain that on master mode enemies regenerating make the game unnecesarrilly difficult so now you are giving link this regeneration power?, even if it is at a lower rate it shouldn't be there, there is food for a reason man.
