Basically what it sounds like. This is an attempt to recreate the first half of Dragon Valley from Freedom Planet to Sonic Mania. This mod utilizes the 2 acts in Green Hill to create 1 combined Act of the level. This mod was, in part inspired by TheRudyFox's Wip video on the level, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK-qHwJuYWw . I just wanted to do this as sort of a challenge to see if I could port over the level myself, with as much detail as possible from the original game. As the mod stands, I do plan to do an Act 2, with an original layout, since the level design from the game doesn't mesh well with the physics of the original.
If you've played Freedom Planet for a long time, some things may look off, in terms of the background and level design. As for the background, I was a bit lazy. In terms of the actual level, either some things had to be adjusted to fit with the corkscrew loops, or it was my faulty construction of the level.
Now to address the bugs, more specifically with the second half of the level. Some effects like explosions, S.dash dust, and ring particles won't show some of the time. This is the result of how the game always renders the smoke-like effects you see (and all parallax entities ), so they overtake the effects. this is also why you can't place objects in debug mode. Also since the second half is built off of the SSZ boss scene, there is no transition to the next zone. this means you'll either get a crash or softlock once the game is done tallying the score.
This is just fantastic. The graphics and sound are great, and the level layout just kept making me want to explore. Tons of hidden goodies and perfectly placed enemies. The steam mechanic was great and easy to figure out, and the level transition was smooth as butter. It seemed a little strange that the DD Wrecker didn't glow red, but it adds the extra challenge which I welcome. I only could spot a single "glitch", that after one of the second act's corkscrew loops, you can kinda sink into the ground, best explained in a picture lol
Great mod. Though one gripe with it is the holes that have steam coming out of them. Near the end when you're forced to use those 3 to get higher, it took me a while to figure it out, even then it wasn't fully figured out.
