Grand Theft Auto, usually called GTA, is a video game series developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. The series has won multiple awards, and is named as one of the most universally acclaimed gaming franchises, with Grand Theft Auto III and IV considered as two of the most revolutionary and critically acclaimed video games of all time.
The series focuses around many different protagonists who attempt to rise through the ranks of the criminal underworld, although their motives for doing so vary in each game. The antagonists are commonly characters who have betrayed the protagonist or his organisation, or characters who have the most impact impeding the protagonist's progress.
Grand Theft Auto was the first game in this series. It was released in 1997 and was set in 3 cities: Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City. Those 3 cities later got rebuilt and now have their own game(s). Grand Theft Auo III was widely acclaimed, as it brought the series to a 3D setting and more immersive experience, and is considered a landmark title that has subsequently influenced many other open world action games and led to the label "Grand Theft Auto clone" on similar games.

GTA V is great. I hope for a new version which is even bigger and better. I played pretty much half of the games in the series and enjoyed every bit of it. I really liked GTA III because it was groundbreaking since it has so much fun stuff like comfy cars with nice handling to pimps, medics and weapon stores. The realism of that game was incredible for it's time definitely.
But it also made me sick of how difficult and twisted that game can be at times. For example a mission where you bomb a restaurant owner or something that was quite dramatic, lol. But anyhow that game is one of my favorites along with GTA II, Vice City, San Andreas, IV and V.
