I *almost* got scammed
- A Blog Post for GameBanana
Today, I have lost my steam account for a few hours (I have already recovered my account at the time of writing this blog) so as not to bore with unnecessary text, I will try to summarize everything in a few words. one of my trusted friends texted me saying he accidentally reported my steam account. To avoid a permaban I had to talk to a valve moderator, the worst thing is that if it seemed reliable I initially trusted this fake moderator because he sent emails with the official steam account (keep reading to find out how he did it) the fake moderator when seeing that this method did not work, he asked me for my steam password directly, from here I began to distrust, but despite that, I gave him my password, and he told me to wait a few minutes. most likely he tried to withdraw money from my steam account, but since I don't have any associated credit cards and the Argentine pesos are worth nothing, he couldn't get anything from me after that, the fake moderator asked me that the only way to check if I was human was to put a "little" money in my steam account (Account that was under the control of the fake moderator) How much money did the fake moderator ask me for? 100 $USD! (6,974.28 $ARS)
the fake moderator said that once you deposit the money, do a refund, it was obviously a scam I blocked it and immediately sent an email to steam support and now this here The question is, if I was a fake moderator, how would you send me emails from the official Steam email? easy, he put my username and then said "forget my password" conclusion. if you see a message similar to the one in the photo, it is scam! He tried to scam my friends, but the fake moderator made a huge mistake, he spoke in Portigues, and I speak Spanish (are similar languages, but not the same) Due to the scam, I lost a couple of hours of work, my HL: OP pack was going to be released today, but I think I will release it tomorrow if everything goes wrong do not worry about my account, it is currently 100% in my possession and I have not lost anything
Man. These guys were silent and I had forgotten about them. Then they just turn up again. My advice is to email the real Valve at customer support and tell them what's going on, they might be able to help you.
