Some fixes for the animations 4d
  • Overhaul Started reworking draw for flare

I'm still not happy with some of the animations, for example the inspects are still kinda bad, and the flaregun draw and fire need to be completely reworked. For some reason the draw for flare completely broke so i had to start over

This is an early stage WiP. I will try my best to update it as often as i can. But worst case scenario i'll work on it every wednesday, saturday and sunday since i have college the rest of the week.

I'm new to animating out of scratch in blender, so please, be harsh with criticism, tell me how i can make things better, and share some tips with me. Thanks!

Okay, this isn't early stage anymore, i'm done with almost every animation now, except for the all class melee, slap and manmelter. I won't edit the jetpack probably.

    Amazing job so far. I'm happy there's still someone who feels like they want to work on something like this. I like the direction you're trying to take some of the animations. However, since you've asked for criticisms, I'll list some of mine:

    1. The Flamethrower is being pushed too far forward and too far left towards the middle of the screen.

    It feels too disorienting to have the flamethrower pushed that far forward, and to the left. Especially considering that you're showing these off in (I think?) 54 FOV. Many people usually like to use a viewmodel FOV of 75 - 90, and this could cause major issues with FOVs as high as those. Try to make it look closer to how Valve's animations are; with his hand closer up to the end of the flamethrower, and the flamethrower being closer to the screen.

    2. The Shotgun's draw, firing, and reload animations blocks large parts of the most important parts of the screen.

    Having the ability to see your surroundings at all times is extremely important. The draw animation blocks a large portion of the middle of the screen, as does the reload animation. The firing animation blocks a large portion of the right side of the screen unnecessarily. Try making the draw animation a little less flashy, and off to the right. Change the firing animation to be more controlled, and down further. And finally, change the reload animation down more and way off to the right.

    3. Melee Swing Issue / Animation Choppiness

    At the 8 second mark in WIP 12, you can see one of the swing animations for the axes. This one in particular is really choppy near the end of the swing, almost looking like the swing is coming to a halt for a second.

    Additionally, all of the animations feel odd. Like all of them are a little choppy. This is to be expected, since you're new to this. I'm no expert on animation, nor have I ever tried to animate anything. So there's no way I could suggest a fix to this.

    I absolutely love the route you're taking on the Flare Gun and Melee animations, and I'm excited to see how this project turns out.

  • In my opinion, the airblast looks a little "forced" if you know what I mean. I'd recommend making it a little smoother. Otherwise, good mod. Animations are pretty cool.
