I'm working on a pack of textures for Half-Life 2 compiled
from the results of a neural-net-based upscaling tool and my own personal touch-ups. Because of the way the Source Engine handles texture scaling, diminishing returns from upscaling textures of HL2's already high resolution, and the expansive library of similar high-quality replacements already available on this site and others, I do not intend to upscale every texture in the game. Characters, decals, weapons, ammo, and only the most commonly-encountered props will receive attention.
At the moment, I have almost all the textures I intend to work on upscaled. The bulk of the remaining work will involve virtually repainting each individual texture to address
deformation and artifacts from the imperfect upscaling process, as well as fixing the occasional blemish carried over from the original. If possible, I would also like to supplement this pack with improved shaders for all modified textures, though I don't know at present how effective that will be.
I will update with screenshots as the project progresses and release in parts. Feel free to share suggestions and feedback below.
