So I'm here to show you how to load mods without having to constantly
navigate to where your game is located!
What you will need:
Sonic 1 and 2 Decomps (RSDK Obtained Legally)
.NET Core 5.0.0 or Above
Images of the Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 Icons (Optional)
and any random mod for (I'll be using Sunset Emerald Hill).
If you don’t have something listed here then I’d recommend installing it now.
Step 1: Adding the Games
Adding the games is relatively simple upon opening reloaded you’ll be met with this:
Click the plus button and in the window that appears navigate to where Sonic 1 and 2 are and add them in.
To make things easier for later though you’ll want to rename them you can do so by clicking on one and launching it then you’ll know what game based on the menu.
From there simply name the games accordingly!
The Icons may look a bit wrong but we’ll fix those at the end of the tutorial. For now on to Adding Mods!
Step 2: Adding Mods
To add a mod we’ll first click on the Triple Gear Icon
Which will send us here:
Now we’ll click “New Mod” and a new window will pop up:
To break the categories down:
Top Box - Mod Folder Name
Second Box- Mod Name
Third Box- Mod Author
Fourth Box- Mod Version
Fifth Box - Mod Description
So a lot of this is basically a copy/paste job after that click “Mod Dependencies” and set “Reloaded File Redirector” as a dependency.
If you don't see it however, not to worry as you can download it from Reloaded II! Simply click on the Gear Icon with a plus next to it and look through the list for the Redirector then select it and click "Download":
Then wait for it to Install, once that's done you then simply set the mod to use it as described above.
Now that that's done and we're back on the original page click on the mod listing and add it to the mod’s respective game:
Finally go to the game and click on the mod entry then click the “Open Folder” button it will open a window in that window make a folder called “Redirector” and put the mod files inside:
To clarify most mods are typically setup like this from ZIP:
Mod.zip/Mod Folder/Data Files
You'll want to get the Data Files you'll know your there when you see folders named "Data" and "Scripts" or one of them alone depending on mod.
You'll want to plop those into the "Redirector" folder you just made so say the mod edits both data and scripts then it will look like this:
If it's just a Script mod or just a Data Mod then it will only use one of these
After that close the window and return to Reloaded 2 then simply enable
the mod and launch the game:
Congrats you now know how to load mods and will never have to swap files out again!
But if you want to fix the Icon issue and make the games more Identifiable then read on.
Step 3: Adding Icons
For this you’ll need to download the game’s Icons, which you can find on Sonic Retro’s pages for 2013 Sonic 1 and 2.
Once done store them somewhere safe and, in Reloaded 2 pick the desired game and click “Edit Application” you’ll see a big circle with the obtained icon.:
Simply click on the icon you see and navigate to where you stored Sonic 2’s Icon and select it then do the same for Sonic 1 after all that this will be your final result:
With that you now have Icons Enjoy!
