The manual modding which is done by editing the INI files, is little complex for beginners. In this tutorial, you're going to learn about how to install a custom unit manually in the Rules.INI. For this, I will be using [Laser Titan](http://tiberian.gamebanana.com/gamefiles/3230 "") for instance. Notes - - Before we begin, it's highly recommended to use any plain text editor that shows line numbers, [Notepad++](http://notepad-plus-plus.org/ "") for example. - Use the Find tool (CTRL+F) of the text editor to find the part/section you are looking for. This will help you in quick finding of a text. It is highly recommended to use this since Rules.INI is a very large file containing much texts and information and you may get confused when searching manually. - The semi-colon (;) is used as a comment in the INI file, which is not read by game. This is useful for putting a section name or heading as a reminder. Step 1 - Download Laser Titan. Copy/paste its Rules.INI to any temporary folder. Open its Rules.INI and go to line #8014.
You'll find the following text:
9=UNT0001Copy and save it anywhere for temporary. Leave it for now.
Go to the Rules.INI again, then go to line #9392. You'll find a comment (;) with the following text written on it:
Laser TitanStart copying from this line (9392) to line #9429. Save it anywhere and leave it for now.
Close the Laser Titan's Rules.INI now. Step 2 - Now open the default game's Rules.INI and go to line #712.Or search the following text:
[VehicleTypes]When you find it, scroll down to the section ending or till you see the 50=NHUNTER. Now paste that first text we've copied earlier i.e. 9=UNT0001 to a new line. Once done, go to the end of this Rules.INI and paste the second text we've copied earlier (line #9392 - line #9429 of Laser Titan Rules.INI) to a new line. Close and save the Rules.INI and start the game and the changes are applied. By doing this, you can easily install any mod manually without disturbing the original data in INI files.
