Model viewer is made by Uncle Mike, developer of Xash engine as a modern replacement for outdated HLMV and Jed's Model Viewer.

Model Editor version is dated by 27.03.2017

Most notable features:
  • The program does not keep being in memory on exit like Jed's Model Viewer.
  • Supports models with 20,000 polys in each submodel.
  • Functionality is almost like in Jed's MV. (Except playing event sounds)
  • Automatic detection of view models. (View models already opened in first person camera, you can change camera view with V hotkey)
  • Proposes to save the model after making changes to it on exit.
  • Able to manipulate blending in animations.
  • Support of new texture flags, including Paranoia 2 ones.
  • Takes up little space on computer. (contains one .exe file only)
  • Supports lefthanded view-models for CS.
  • Able to change top and bottom colors of DM_Base and Remap Textures. (Added in 1.28 beta)
  • Has build in editor to configure model origin, attachments, hitboxes, eye position, bound and clip boxes. (Added in 1.28 beta)
  • Has two edit modes: QC Source and Real Model.
  • Visual preview of muzzle-flashes. (When animation have appropriate events)
  • And many other changes.

Here is an official link for the editor, the author uploads newest versions here: http://hlfx.ru/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4972

Also if you found some bugs or want suggest features, you better register on that forum and tell to author itself, I just uploaded it here and have nothing to do with the program.

Wow, the color remap preview feature is incredibly useful, and going to the texture tab shows the updated results too.  I wrote a tutorial on color remap textures here:
    http://gamebanana.com/tuts/12230
and this will help with testing without having to mess around with thirdperson ingame.

Who knows? The Redistributable is free and easy to download.

But my """"""hate"""""" for Xash3D is irrelevant in this discussion.

I will concede I was being rash at the time. And it isn't that bad as an alternative for casual users.

And with that, I may as well increase my rating. Sorry for that.

Solokiller's viever requires an installed  Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015.
    >>I have my own problems with Xash3D.
Chyvachok As I told you, some just have prejudices. With this there is nothing to be done. On the other hand, anyone can download and compare.

I guess everyone's entitled to their own opinion however. But...

The memory leak was literally a 1-line fix. Not that hard if you have the source code.

Solokiller's version is a lot more optimized and allows for builds on Linux and Mac OS. And is made for CMake, much superior to using more traditional methods of compiling things. But something tells me that there isn't anything like that for PARANOIA 2's model viewer.

Disagree with me all you want and I'm perfectly O.K. with that but I prefer faster performance with a new renderer and tons of optimization by removing old-ancient Windows speicific-APIs.

And, did you know that his Model Viewer also contain those features you mentioned?

But either way, I have my own problems with Xash3D. Not too entirely related on the topic so I don't know why you brought that up. Solokiller's working on HLEnhanced and all sorts of other useful tools and is benefiting the small-but-still-thriving Half-Life community if you want to bring up their credentials in comparison.

But do please go on and spam my comments with your little stickers. Is it because I rated it semi-poorly?

Well, about Solokiller version, I downloaded newest version of it on GitHub and checked it out, about optimization and any issues, I didn't found any issues with both model viewers, they both don't lag or have other problems such as crashes or hangouts, why you rate its stability and performance as 4 I don't understand, it work, and work fine, and about optimization, just compare, this tool, it consist with only one .exe file and have size of 134 KBytes, while Solokiller version has lots of .dll files and size of program unpacked from .rar is 53 MBytes.

And about mentioned features of Solokiller's version, it has all features of JHMV, but it still don't has some usefull stuff from Paranoia2 Model Viewer, you can't check Remap and DM_Base texture colors and most important feature is ability of P2MV to configure Attachments and Hitboxes directly in model viewer and ability to save these changes in model or write full qc string, which you need just copy to .qc file, that features don't have any other model viewer except one from Source SDK, but obviously it can't be used for HL1.

Only mayor things what P2MV don't have is ability to edit events and play event sounds, but still they can be added in future, as well as Linux version.

And compare these two tools is not that correct, P2MV is made to support not just Half-Life models, but also models with Xash3D-only features such as UV-map tiling which is already added to Xash3D engine, and author plan also add vertex weights, also that is reason why this model viewer is made - to support models with these features, because old Model Viewers can't correctly display these models.

But I'll rate it for what it is, even if it's a little late.
Lol, dude this model viewer is supreme in all aspects compared to the Solokiller's version, including optimization and features, only with this editor you able to configure attachment and hitbox position, review remap textures and preview muzzleflashes, and Unkle Mike who create this Moded Viewer is really competent programmer who even write his own Xash Engine.
