How can one open HL1 models in Milkshape 3D?


I would like to animate default HL1 models.

    As far as I can recall, you have to decompile the model(s) in question before you can import them into Milkshape 3D.

    Not as serious as you'd think.

    You have to decompile them first:

    These are my compilers of choice, StudioMDL.exe is for compiling models and MDLdec.exe is for decompiling models.

    I'd recommend Jed's Half-Life Model Viewer as a GUI for the compilers, it can view your compiled models and also decompile and compile them as well, when the two compilers are configured with it, when it has installed look in one of the tabs for the configure tools button, then set the locations of the two compilers.

    When a model has been decompiled it will produce MANY files/ .SMD files, so be sure to put the model in a folder and not just on your desktop, you can then go into Milkshape 3D, go to import and then to Half-Life SMD file.

    You should now have a fully textured model in front of you if you haven't selected an animation SMD by accident.

    Decompile the models then import the .smd files.
