So my friend got me to download thing thing for the PSP, recreation of Counter Strike, and its 3D. So I got curious and had a look at the files. From what I can see, the word quake occurs a lot but I'm not sure. I know this is a PC gaming site, but would anyone know about how to decompile and/or recompile these types of files?

    I have a PSP and I've also played some CS and HL remakes for it. They uses the Id Tech 1 (Quake 1 engine). So the models should be "MDL" files for Quake.

    Have you tried to open them with HLMV? If it works you should be able to decompile the models and then have the ".qc" file extracted. You can then use Milkshape 3D and go to "Tools" -> "Compile Quake1 MDL" to recompile it.
    I don't know if this works, but it's the best answer I could give you that is inside my knowledge.

    On another note, you should be able to found the answer by making a Google search.

    I tried, but I didn't really know what to look up and got nothing of use. Also, I couldn't open it with HLMV. Jeds gave me an error.

    He is sometimes. I still need to beat him in it so a few wallhacks wouldn't go out of place, since it is an offline muliplayer game we'll be having.

    So, got any help for me with how I would decompile the model files?

    Aw, damn Microsoft...

    It works on my pc. Try to send me the models if you want, I'll try to decompile them and then I'll send you the files you need (if it works). With that program, models can be exported in frames or multiple frames in .XDF (AutoCAD) and .CAD (Breeze Designer) only. So I think you need one of these programs to be able to re-export them again as OBJ or any other format.

    Here are your decompiled models.

    I've decompiled them to both DXF and CAD filetypes, + BMP textures for each model, each one on its proper named folder.

    To recompile them, once you've converted those DXF or CAD files to OBJ or something else, simply import them to Milkshape 3D and then "Tools -> Half-Life -> Generate QC file...", then edit it with a text editor if changes is needed (may be different for Quake since you're going to generate a Half-Life QC file).
    Once done: "Tools -> Compile Quake1 MDL...", and it should work.

    I told you before, you could try AutoCAD to open DXF files or Breeze Designer for CAD files. But I don't know if both has exporting functions, nor if they have the required ones. I've never used those 2 programs.

    Yeah, I don't really like going into uncharted territory, doesn't end well for me. If only blender had a plugin for them or something.

    I don't know. I've already done half of the work, you should try with one of these programs now. Knowledge is a powerful tool, so use it. ;)

    Blender has a DXF thing. Could I ask what the .frs is for?

    I think it's the file for the frames and multiple frames. Not sure though.

    I've tried to open one of them with a text editor, and it works. But I don't know how useful this could be. I do believe that you have to create a custom SMD somehow. I think you have to remake the animations by yourself, from scratch. :/

    It doesn't have any animations. From what I've seen its like bodygroups in TF2. When firing, it goes between "closed" and "open", referncing to the bolt. When not, its simply just closed. The sway seems to be always there with every weapon.

    Also the hands tend to look like someone took to them with a claw hammer, but at least I have a good set of hands from the AK to use.

    So, can I ask you a question? When you decompiled it, what file format were the files you got?

    I didn't decompile them, I opened them with QMV and just exported them as DXF and CAD. There wasn't any option for decompiling unfortunately. Just exporting.

    Yes, I think it needs a sequence, but I don't know that much about this, unfortunately. I just make non-animated models (props).

    Even those usually have a sequence, right? Just an "idle" kinda thing. Isn't it just the bones, no mesh data?

    Yes, they have a sequence indeed. But since I use kHED I don't need to touch anything, it automatically compiles the model just by exporting it as a MDL, ready to be used and/or viewed in HLMV, and the only animation sequence is named "kHED" by default (which is the "idle" one).
