Detailed Textures for Half-Life 1

This is an ambitious project to port every texture from this pack to the GoldSource engine. It fully utilizes the engine's Detail Texture feature. The difference from other projects like HL: Gold, it's that this pack correctly uses overlays instead of applying textures to a white wad (which is a lazy way IMO), this means you won't get a white custom map if the _detail.txt file doesn't exists.

There are bugs on how the game textures are placed in the world, but that requires manually editing each texture to fit perfectly in the main game, but asides from small quirks here and there (mostly alienation problems) the texture pack looks excellent. A few textures/overlays that didn't exist in the original pack were either extracted from other HD packs or added from other sources (like Textures.com), so the credits go to them. The rest have a generic overlay applied to them.

Every texture was ported and worked on via batch scripting, I used many programs and developed my own to automatize the most I could. In the end it took my 4 free days, I hope you put this to good use. The porting of transparent textures was done manually.

It should work with other mods, including Sven Co-op, but none of them have been tested. I included a global_detail.txt which you need to copy and rename to every map the mod has.

The reason I wanted to do this is because there are a lot of high definition models in the Half-Life Community, but creators don't seem to understand that no matter how detailed a model look, it will always look horrendous if the map textures are low resolution. Note that I do not blame anyone, the Detailed Textures is a rather obscure feature and it's a shame that it becomes unused. I hope Detailed Textures becomes an standard in Half-Life modding.
