For those that haven't read Sherlock Holmes; No, he did not wear a deerstalker cap. Holmes was a more refined man than that and a deerstalker cap and cloak like you see in pictures would be garb for the country. Holmes is only mentioned wearing "an ear flapped traveling cap" in one story and this was actually AFTER he was drawn that way by a man named Sidney Paget, who did illustrations to accompany Doyle's stories.

It's a hat for hunting:
Despite what the hat is made for I don't think Sherlock Holmes hunted much.
Just for you're information, there is no proof that Sherlock actually wore that hat in the original books.
Pointless arguing. Taken from the wiki,
"A deerstalker (right) along with typically associated paraphernalia of Sherlock Holmes"
A picture of the deerstalker is not any proof.
And anyways, wiki is not really a reliable source.
When the new film came out and it was featured in 2 different newspapers and in a TV guide and in all of them it said that in the entire book series, the deerstalker isn't mentioned.
