    Dam talk about a flame war any way im looking for a good sig to go with my sounds's and it has to be a SIG-p226 im just wanting to make it for hl2-hl2 ep2 not for a mod is the 40 S&W and if so can i convert it to hl2

    Actually the firing pin, and the "plate" you refer to that holds it back should move back with the slide. Firstly the "plate" with the hole in it, showing off the firing pin isn't a plate at all, but a part of the slide - it does not come off, it is simply part of the slide. Secondly the firing pin will be visible through this hole whether the weapon is in battery, or locked back (granted the hammer isn't down). The hammer must strike this pin in order to detonate the primer on the cartridge.

    I don't mean to sound offensive, and my apologies if I come across as offensive - but have you ever handled a real firearm, or specifically a Sig before?

    Normals are needed to get the effect I want on the phong...

    if what you mean by that is that the phong should seem bumpy, and not too incredibly smooth when a strong reflection hits, the same result can be produced by a base texture-generated heightmap put in as the alpha

    Let settle this by saying the firing pin does move backwith the slide, as it is spring loaded inside the slide, so it should appear exactly as it does - in fixed position at all times.
    gj weapon noobs.

    Just for the hell of it, if the normals are so invisible ingame that you don't care that you broke them when rendering new ones from texture, why include them at all?

    Don't get me wrong, I agree with you that normal maps are awfully represented by the source engine. If it were up to today's standards (or 2004 standards for that matter) we could have "next-gen" (current-gen) replacements in source that would actually look good without kimono having to texture them.

    2004 was sooo next-gen:

    Apparently, not even kimono can make it look like it should, so something must be wrong.

    Congrats on referring to that post. Now if the skin was all grey ingame, then I see something worth fixing. However, with normal appearance ingame being minimal with the skin applied, it is not worth the time. Actually try the skin ingame instead of simply going off pictures of a flat grey skin not rendered in source.

    As for the firing pin moving back, I tend to think you are wrong. The plate, however, I know you are wrong.
