Alright guys, this one was a tough one to figure out. The normal mapping was a pain the ass, cause I tried my best to make it appear engraved, yet retain it's detail. I think I got it down pretty well.
I tried to make this one as detailed as a possibly could. I also figured that it probably needed some kind of cubemapping, to give it reflections.
A note, one that I always leave for people who assess... IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THIS STYLE OF SKIN, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT ASSESS IT. THIS IS MADE FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE THESE KINDS OF SKINS, NOT TO NECESSARILY FIT INTO THE STYLE OF TF2.
Now that that's out of the way... please enjoy this skin, and give me your thoughts! Not too harsh though, please?
Pros: nice detailed texture for the blade(it really appears like engraved).also the grips look good.Overall a great improvement since your last attempt
Cons: not so original but whatever there are many people who like those kinds of skins
Improvements: Can't find any way to improve it
Little quotes :
It doesn't matter about the shape of the actual blade, because machetes come in many different shapes and sizes. What makes it a machete and not a kukri is its spine. A kukri has a curved spine with the curve beginning usually around 35-55% of the way along the spine (not including the tang), and a machete has a straight spine. The weapon wielded by the Sniper has a straight spine, not a curved one. Even if you count the bit at the top as a curve, which it isn't, its still way too far along the spine for it to be a kukri.
Machete is a general term covering a wide range of heavy foliage-cutting weapons.
A Kukri on the other hand is specifically adapted to turn swinging motions into a square-on chopping blow, to cut wood and people with equal efficiency. It is a sort of sub-division of a machete. They're traditionally a Nepalese weapon. Nepal itself is characterised by having nothing at all to do with australia or australians. Valve has no reason to give a kukri to the sniper over a machete, or anything else for that matter.
A couple of things I'd like to bring to your attention. Number 1 - this is a machete. You can see that by the file name, and also if you google "machete", this is on the first page.
As you can see, it quite closely resembles the sniper's machete.
Number 2 - this is a kukri.
As is this
Something you should notice about each of these weapons, which may not be evident at first glance, is that the back of the blade, the blunt part, curves along with the blade. Both the cutting edge and the spine of it bend part way up. This is characteristic of Kukris, including the couple that I myself own. If you examine the sniper's knife you will see that it does not do this. The spine is pretty much straight most, if not all, of the way up.
For instance, here is a nice render of a machete for far cry: http://farcry.gamesweb.com/farcry/img/waffen/machete.jpg
here is another machete with a "chopped off" top like the snipers: http://bekleidungskammer.de/images/97BM%20Cold%20Steel%20bolo%20machete.jpg
here we even get the name of it:
So there you have it. Its official name is a Bolo machete
Sorry for this long post.
Edit : I wonder why it has an EF as that's not from me, I quoted that from guys I read on a forum (Callmege and Immortal_GJK).
I wonder why all those guys around here call it a Kukri.
Anyway, it seems quite cool. I'm testing it.
Edit : I installed it, it's quite cool. I'm not fond of that kind of skins, so i'll stick to my previous one, but it's well designed.
