After 8 months of near complete silence I am proud to present to you: Engineer First Person Re-animated!

Sorry that the video's are done in a game due to a bug in the "Known bugs" section I had to record them in a valve server.

Every animation completely works as of 22/07/2018

So yeah, it took like 8 months to finally release this pack. I had animated a bunch of classes back when i was on vacation (Sniper, Pyro and demo) but after testing them at home they didn't look good at all and I scrapped them. I slowely worked on the engineer animations while procrastinating and being distracted by games and other stuff.

and some animation bugs and other stuff that i luckily (mostly) fixed. Thanks to Paysus for helping me out with a lot of the issues.

INSTALLATION
Place the VPK in your tf/custom folder
IN-GAME

To make them work in game you will first have to load a solo session by typing "map itemtest" (or whatever map you want to load) in the console. Then select Engineer and there you go they should all be loaded for your valve/community server games.

KNOWN BUGS

-"Shotgun reload animation only reloads once and then does every other animation before jumping to the reloading loop" It's a side effect for the jitter fix. Just join any valve/community server and it will be fixed
-"The animations broke after switching servers!" That's a problem with the mod rules for valve servers. You MUST select engineer AT LEAST ONCE every time the map changes, Even for a second is fine.
-"The animations for the short circuit look wrong" Yeah I know, I dislike the short circuit in every way possible, in terms of gameplay and how it's animated. It uses the pistol animation but only uses it from the wrist or something. I just couldn't be bothered to trial and error the inspect animations.

  • The animations are pretty good but guns need more knockback,the holding of wrench looks kinda wierd.Engi holds it a bit close to face like he want to eat it and on my opinion be better if wrench be hold by 2 hands.

    I really enjoy seeing people actually making animation mods, as they take a lot of work and dedication (especially with the addition of unique inspection animations for each item type). The unique take on some animations is refreshing, especially the way the Gunslinger is done.

    Criticism/Tips/Whatever:
    • The shotgun draw looks a little odd at the end. My suggestion would be to create a more natural movement by adjusting the time it returns to the origin position. Instead of being at the beginning of the rotational movement, move it closer to the end. You could also have it begin rotating towards the idle position earlier than at the end of the pump.
    • For recoil, try to manipulate the location/translation as well as the rotation. Having just rotational movement creates a sense of weakness to each shot. Also, try to counter rotation with with delayed translation, otherwise it may seem too linear/exaggerated
    • You should probably look into getting that pistol bug fixed. The wrist animation difference between the idle and the rest of the animations is kinda off-putting
    • Invest time into animating the fingers, even if it's the slightest movements. Specifically in idle animations, static fingers look very strange and can take away from an animation. This isn't as important when the fingers are holding onto something, but can still be a nice detail.
    • If you haven't, I'd advise looking into the Graph Editor (assuming you use Blender).  Simple changes to the curves can completely change an animation.

    Sorry if all of this is not intuitive and/or confusing, I'm bad at explaining things

    Ignoring any download errors this is what I have to say about the mod.
    Pros:
    +It's a new touch up with some nice concepts
    +I like the idle finger of the PDA's
    +The Gunslinger one had a good idea to it.
    Cons:
    -It doesn't feel like there's knockback at all, like Engie is just firing toy guys.
    -To say the least, the holding animation has a...really weird looking hand.
    -The shotgun pullout animation looks kinda jagged, and the reload cock looks too slow, like Engie deliberately cocked it slower, which doesn't make sense.

    That's all I really have to say, it's not the worst but you can use some improvements (which I hope to see :])

    I have to admit that it seems the website is running into some issues because under the download button it's written "Archive contents missing or pending analysis"... I haven't tried downloading the file but...
