This is a concept rifle made by Phenixtri and requested by CyborgParrot. Drop the entire contents of the archive into your custom stuff folder. The game_sounds_weapons.txt has been edited to include the reload sounds.

The S-LAR is a nice change up from the usual assault rifles and M4 clones that are typically used for AR2 replacements.
model looks very close to the concept art, and is neither ultra-poly,
nor low-poly, finding a perfect balance between looks and wastefulness:
The model not only looks good on the concept, it looks good in the game.

animations, although custom, are different than the concept art, which
shows it being a breach loaded weapon. The weapon does something similar
to the vanilla SMG model where it does an off-screen hand motion below
the grip/stock area, and then goes back to firing:
energy ball firing animation is also not very noticeable, as the gun
only makes a slightly quiet sound, and then fires the ball:
the gun had been animated to be a breach loader as in the artwork, it
would have been much cooler. The lack of recognizable firing animations
for the ball fire, also detracts from it.

textures, while they work, are not exactly the best in the world. They
are slightly bland, and are mostly "black" or dark colours, with little

Unfortunately, in most situations, I could honestly not see much of a change due to the similarity between the two, coupled with the lack of different contrast on the diffuse. The lack of major difference and contrast unfortunately makes the model suffer.

The weapon does not have any custom sounds, which means although it can use any of the other custom AR2 sound sets, it could have been different.
Sound Rating: N/A
This is not just a standard, real-world assault rifle. This is not an ultra-tacticool weapon. And it is most certainly not a dime-a-dozen M4gery. This is a unique idea, and it is not only original, but a welcome change of pace. It looks truly like something the Combine would have created, and very well could fit in the original lore in place of the AR2.

In the end, I played through the entirety of Half-Life 2, and I found myself using the AR2 far more than the SMG, which is a complete first for myself. It was a very nice, very satisfying weapon to use, but the animations and textures did detract from the overall experience.
Reminds me of a Hi Point carbine If I'd have designed it I'd put more hints to energy cores or something in it. Vents, buttons, switches, something to hint at "more advanced" than what us filthy peasant humans create.
