They also look like balloons to be honest.

    1) In edit mode hit the space bar and type "Seams" then select "seams from islands"

     2) Select one of the Red edges that will appear using the edge selection tool

    3) Shift+G ---> Seams

    4) Once all the seams are selected press CTRL+E and then Mark Sharp

    5) Use Edge Split modifier and uncheck "edge angle" option


    I probably did something wrong, but i followed what you said. Now the turret is still, it won't move in the model viewer. Sorry about this <:3

    EDIT: Nevermind, i just had to have the WHOLE thing selected, so i did the rest just like you said :3 i hope i did it!
