This week has been a good one for Half-life 2 Beta content. Recently, a Facepunch user uploaded the ORIGINAL Beta antlions. Another user uploaded this onto Facepunch as a reskin for Half-life 2 and a mod for Gmod.
Unfortunately, the model's animations were broken, so I decided to see what the problems were and fixed them! I was happy that I could fix it! ^w^
These are THE REAL beta antlions and work in Half-life 2.
This pack includes both the Sand (yellow) and Wasteland (red) Antlion and are both compatible with the game. You will see both of these variants when you play during chapters that have Antlions in them.
Also decided to add my own artwork here of these guys :3
How do i install it? do i just drag the folder to my hl2/customs folder or do i just remove certain vmf and vtf files? I want the wasteland antlions as the main texture. Last time i installed this, the texture didn't change, it was just the normal default antlion texture from retail...
I'm glad someone made the skin work for the released version of Half Life 2. I see that there are only 3 "sheet" textures with only 1 being different from the design the retail version has. Can I add an extra texture so they can be 4 like in the original?
What do you mean? there is only the 2 antlion skins. I think the "3rd" sheet you might be talking about is the Gib one "antlionsheethigh" or something like that. If you're talking about adding another gib sheet then go right ahead. Do you thang with this if you want. :3
Ah yes there really are 2 sheets. They use the beta "style". So if I take one of those textures and I change it how should I name it in order for the model to use it? Should I simply add a number? Or does the model accept only 2 textures?
I think it only accepts the 2. I don't know since the model is different and uses differently named materials/textures. Usually if they used the retail model, their material's names would be something like "antlionsheethigh_01" or something like that, but since it uses the beta model it needs differently named materials to work. I wouldn't really know how to edit them much :P
EDIT: well, if u take the sheet/texture and change it, just name it the same as the texture you replaced it as E.g if i had a red apple "apple_fruit" and wanted to change it to a green apple, done some editing i'd have to name in the same "apple_fruit" for it to replace the red one. I think thats how it works anyway :P
Actually there is a way and it's only slightly complicated. Contact me if you wanna know how. If not then it's totally fine.
