Both actually! I made my own computer a while back, but now I have a normal Windows 10 laptop.

Branded - Upgraded by myself. Planning on replacing the CPU cooler eventually. Got my 1060 6gb when it costed $320, hoping on spending at least $200 on upgrades total in the future (such as PCIe USB 3.0 Slots since I'm utilizing two Anker USB 3.0 Hubs).
I'd say build your own based on hellmonja's message. He provided the most helpful post in my opinion. I should've done the same to save myself at least $100-$300.

I wanna assemble my custom PC by myself but I have a problem with the cable management, so I let the seller assemble it for me. :V

From experience, building a PC is much cheaper and the PC itself runs more efficiently. There are obvious reasons why this is so. Branded PC's are for those who don't have time to build their own. That time is what you pay extra for. And companies tend to load their PC's with promotional stuff that you actually don't need which clogs up the system.

In a custom built PC you control everything. A little tight on the budget? Why not choose a smaller capacity harddrive or a cheaper chassis? And you only install the software you need/want. If something clogs up your system, it's the builder's fault but at least most of the time he/she knows how to fix it...

PROTIP: Building PC's isn't as hard as it seems, especially nowadays (we used to set MB jumpers for specific CPU's) it's like playing Lego. The only thing you need to be careful of is installing the CPU onto your MB. MotherBoards nowadays have the pins and you're supposed to drop the CPU gently onto them, NEVER PUSH. If it's okay for the store, have them install it for you. Heck, have them test it first before you buy it...

Personally, I'd recommend building one if you're able to. You'll be able to design it however you want, and specialize it towards any particular games you enjoy. Plus it tends to be cheaper than buying an equivalent prebuild. Building isn't too hard either, there are plenty of tutorials on how to build it, and everything has its own slot so can't mess it up too badly.

That's not to say you can't buy a prebuild, of course. Nothing wrong with doing so; it's certainly easier if nothing else. It's your call in the end.

I've owned 4 (operational) PCs in total now, that's 2 laptops and 2 desktops.

Built my current desktop late 2015, still content with its performance although I'm probably getting some more storage soon.
Used my latter laptop in tandem with it for a long time, but it seems to've reached its end now. For as-of-yet unclear reasons the graphical half of the APU has become unresponsive, so the whole deal is getting forced through the CPU half and it has a thermal shutdown after less than half an hour of normal usage.

I built my own PC (first time ever building my own shit) back in September 2017. It ain't nothing special though, as I didn't have enough money to build anything better.

As of today, I still lack the dough to upgrade my PC. Yeah, I'm shit outta luck.

I built my own with help from friends. I will never buy a pre-built again, personally.
