Recreates Blackmesa from HL1 This is the final version of a series of maps called Blackmesa The original layout was based on ns_blackmesa created by a designer called "Lemort" roughly 2/3 of this map is original and designed for TF2 game play. Many of the rooms are replicas of the office rooms found in Sector C of Blackmesa (where the player first meets Barney the security guard). The map is large and handles just about any play style. The cap points are actually spell out the word "B L A C K" This of course is meant to signify the complete name Blackmesa. The fan models with the rotating blades are not mine. I will update the credits for them in a few days The fish in the water will kill you, please do not feed them. ~D

    Thanx niteshade and biggie. yes, the map does play along time. The values for capturing were tuned for a 24/7 server and right now the ego version is ranked in the top 50 (the previous version was at 150 and sinking). i will fully admit it is a bad map for rotation servers. For 24/7 once 32 players are on the server has a better chance of player retention for all the wrong reasons. yes, i said all the wrong reasons. it actually plays more like warpath as far as winning times go. I found that the longer a round has not been won the average player would stay on longer. Many players leave after a round is won. I would suggest those that got bored and left may have left even sooner once the round was over. I'm looking at a plr\_doublemesa variant that will play completely opposite of this and will be much better for rotation servers. again guys, thanx for the heads up ~D

    I have to say I've loved most of the versions of blackmesa and people have loved them on our server but something about this version seems to have destroyed the fun. Now the map is stalematetastic we fight for about an hr back and forth for the middle point before people finally start rtving because they are just getting bored. I'm not sure if the cap times have changed or the change in the vent paths have made this map nearly impossible to win when the teams are evenly matched. To be honest if the older versions didnt have the issue with the crouch areas we would probly load that back up on our servers. Like i said, we love the map just too much stalemate.

  • Pros: Plays really well, a fast paced map. Cons: mentioned in notes. Notes: We have run this map on the [BFC] Bigfistclan server for 2 weeks now and the feedback were getting back is that A captures too fast, the finals capture a tad too slow and its easy to spawn camp. Maybe a alternate route outta spawn other than the vents

    Woodsyx, Play the map on an ego server and you will see how fun the map is with 32 players. There are many sentry set up points through out the map. A cap point was not meant to be one of them. In fact the original release of the map teams tried to achieve a sentry lock down on A and that would kill the map from the start. CTF_Turbine suffers from this. The new supply rooms are to prevent spawn camping as they allow the camped team a way to drop in on the campers. I have noticed allot less spawn camping now that the campers are aware of the side exits. Spies can use them for above backstabs. As for medics and heavies I have seen spies wipe them out on this map. And snipers will murder them in the center area. None of the issues you have brought up are major and in fact many valve maps suffer from exactly what you did not like yet these maps are perfectly fine for the majority of TF2 players. Blackmesa is a long meat grinder plain and simple. You also did not mention Steve, the resident fish nor the suction vents that allow for fast access to the l/c cap points. Did the visuals remind you of Blackmesa sector C? How about the green water which you will not find on any other map? The visuals alone are completely different from other TF2 maps. You post sounded more like you were angry you did not get the previous version. ~D

    A caps way too quickly and there is no way to set up any sort of defense for it. Too easy to get a few medics and a heavy and just kill everyone on the map. Second version of this map was much better, the new resupply rooms are almost completely useless and server no purpose.

  • Pros: More than 1 spawn exit! It's pretty. The detail is great. Cons: I liked the connected vents from v2t7. Improvements: Connect the vents?

    Dragon,I know you have come under a lot of mixed feelings about some of the versions of Blackmesa, however being someone that has played many many hours on all of the versions, I personally have loved them all in different ways, there were definite attributes that set them all apart, having said that v7 had to be admired for the sheer complexity of the design and I wont deny I am going to miss it. However the final version shows your excellent workmanship and design skills at their best, with many nice attributes taken from all the previous versions among which, wouldn't be complete without Steve (Killer fish) who enjoys eating any character class and who incidentally seems to be swimming towards his pray faster than before. Congratulations on the final version, I know I am going to continue to have many more hours of fun on it ! All of us in the EGO community(edgegamers.org) are very proud of you ! 10/10
