_____________________ pvk_dragon_attack Booty _____________________ Recomended Players 6 to 18 Credits Map made by: Lord Trilobite, Jahhur and Lhorkan Special thanks to Themoon for a crash fix and Benryde for other advice Map testing: Ducksauce Mieszko Janrok Snorky Tixa Colonel Sanders Asskicker Cupix Oh Dae Su Jco Opethian Chozo Skuzzlebutt Goodguy3 Pain the Endless ----- Game mode instructions ----- The game mode is booty, but still a bit different from most maps, Knights have to defend the castle, and Pirates and Vikings attack from their caves with dragons. dragon drivers cannot carry the chests with them, they will need a passenger from their team to help steal a chest and take it back to their cave. However, for balance purposes the chests will spawn back to the Knight's treasure room after a short while, meaning Pirates and Vikings have to keep stealing in order to win. ----- Dragon and Ballista instructions ----- The dragons have three seats, the front seat is for the driver and the two back seats are for passengers Note that the red dragon can only be used by the pirate team and the green dragon only by the viking team, the ballistas can only be used by the Knight team. Dragon driver: - press use on one of the legs to enter - left click to breath fire - right click to flap dragon wings to fly up - use wasd to move the dragon - jump or use on the dragon to leave the seat Dragon passenger: - press use on one of the legs to enter whhen the front seat is already taken - you can attack and hold booty while in the passenger seat - press use or right click on the dragon to leave the seat Ballista: - press use on the designated doors to enter - use WASD to aim the ballista - left click to fire - right click to exit the ballista --------------- Side note: The viking's dragon is named 'Ragnarok' and the pirate's dragon is named 'Kraken'. ----------------------------------- Version history Beta 4 (current version) - fixed dragon not respawning - improved dragon clipping and boarding system - further improved clipping - added dragon shadows - tweaked pickup balance - fixed minor issues Beta 3 - tweaked dragon speed - tweaked ballista damage - tweaked dragon fireball delay and lifetime to reduce lag - fixed bug where you could get stuck in the clipping above the dragon - added dragon crush kill icons when the dragon respawns on top of you - added clouds near the top of the map - added text when flying to the wrong cave - further improved eye-candy Beta 2 - tweaked game balance - made the dragons and ballistas more userfriendly - Ballistas do more damage - Ballistas will now award kills and have a custom kill icon - improved clipping all around the map - added some more graphical upgrades here and there - Dragon now respawns if exited in flight - Enlarged the teleports around the dragon so you can enter it from below as well - New chest teleports that do not require the invisble block above the goldheaps - Added extra clipping in the dragoncage -----------------------------------

    Yes, this is to prevent the map from crashing in a server with people in it. the system is so damn complex that all sorts of workarounds are needed, turning off most of the triggers before the rounds start is one of these. So you need other players in the server to make the triggers work. Adding bots will also work.

    'lo guys, I'm Lhorkan (the username was taken here already though), also co-creator of this awesome map. :] I did almost all the trigger and entity work on the dragons and ballistae.
    Cons: There need to be balance ofcourse. Most of the time knights win as i experienced. Therefor knights die really often, this isnt good. Also imo the ballistas are hard to aim with and the dragons are quite unstoppable.
    Knights usually win because most players don't grasp how they have to take back chests to their bases. With a little teamwork the other teams can win without much of a hassle, so I'm not sure if we should lower the other timers even more (or raise the knight bootytimer). As for the ballista aiming, we are very much aware of the difficulty. I'm not sure how we can make it easier though. Maybe increase the damage dealt by ballistas?
    Improvements: I think it would be better if you would score more often. Shooting a dragon doesnt reward you a kill (or did you changed taht?). Normal arrows should be still dangerous for the dragons ~15 arrows should take on out. The dragons look boxy, but for brushwork they are amazing, maybe there will be a model someday...
    Ballistas or arrows will never award a kill because the driver is killed by a trigger_hurt, not by a player. The next beta will sport a custom kill icon for that though, so it's more clear what caused the death of the driver. As for arrows dealing more damage, it would be easy to change, but wouldn't that make it too easy for the knights? We played around a lot with the values and I think it's best when arrows don't do too much damage. Knights can already camp the treasury to defend the booty, if they can just shoot down dragons as well the others teams will never win. Having a model for the dragon is our dream as well, but it will probably stay a dream forever. Too much work is involved in that.
    How did you make the dragon's fire burn the buildings and stuff?
    The roofs are physboxes which OnDamaged (with a damagefilter of course) ignite a bunch of env_fires I manually placed on them.

My friend is very new to server editing and such so I'm not sure if that could be the problem. Edit: Ah I think it's something wrong with me. I get this error in the console for lots of entities when trying to load the map. "Attempted to create unknown entity type info_player_pirate! Can't init info_player_pirate" Thanks.
    All the custom textures are in the file so they should show up properly, but I can't predict how the map is going to react to all kinds of server upgrades or edits.

    Hey, I went on a server a friend of mine made and the textures for the map were broken and it said the teams were full? Any help or suggestions? My friend is very new to server editing and such so I'm not sure if that could be the problem. Edit: Ah I think it's something wrong with me.     Pros: THIS MAP ROCKS! You can drive a dragon, man, thats just awesome. The idea is really good and it worked out really well. the ambience is super, that castle at the cliff, the caves, the room full of gold, HARHAR! Its so much fun to burn the knight and raise the hell upon their castle. Cons: There need to be balance ofcourse. Most of the time knights win as i experienced. Therefor knights die really often, this isnt good. Also imo the ballistas are hard to aim with and the dragons are quite unstoppable. The roofs could look better, they are too flat and "toy"-like, you know? Improvements: ?I think it would be better if you would score more often. Shooting a dragon doesnt reward you a kill (or did you changed taht). Normal arrows should be still dangerous for the dragons ~15 arrows should take on out. The dragons look boxy, but for brushwork they are amazing, maybe there will be a model someday... Notes: This map is probably the best custom map so far! EDIT: Ok, the kill awad for ballistas is great! Good work. But the balance is still the major deficit...

Development Info

Notes
Originally Jahhur was experimenting with a brush based dragon which used a system of triggers Lhorkan had used for another map with vehicles. This proto-dragon gave me an idea for a map, this map. Gradually it began to take shape, but it took us nearly a year to get the worst bugs out of the way.
