[TF2C] itemtest_4expanse

[OPTIONAL] LDR + HDR Cubemap Fixes! 1mo
  • Optimization Fixed up some cubemap issues for LDR and HDR video settings. If you weren't noticing any problems before, no need to reinstall!
  • Tweak 5:30 PM EST - Fixed up all of the Teamspawns to be identical across all teams! Also completely optional if you didn't notice it.

Who knew opening the doors a little could change so much!

This map is an Open-Ended Sandbox Map, and has no formal objective!

Primarily designed with Item-testing in mind (hence, the name)


Hello again! I said to myself I was gonna take a break - and I still am on break!! But, you know, things come up. Spur of the moment things, and then you get into the groove for a week or so and end up with a thing! Does that make sense? I dunno.

Figured, to make my life easier, I'd overhaul Itemtest_4Team - a map that shipped with TF2C! It's serviceable, but it's a very small room. You can't move very much, any Bots you spawn are gonna get crammed like Sardines. Struggles to handle any more than 24 at a time...

So, I took it upon myself to "expand" it a bit - hence the name! I made a lot of changes, so here's the short list of what I can remember I did...

-Greatly expanded the layout of Itemtest_4Team by basing it off of CP_Gorge - the original map to begin with!
-Added (or re-added) some Control Points. They don't count toward anything, but are just for testin' objective stuff. They reset to neutral after about a minute.
-Added water to the 2nd Control Point (the Ditch), so that you can test out water-based attributes and fire! It's just deep enough to swim in at some parts.

-Shuffled around the Main Spawn Room significantly, to add (or re-add) the 2 new teams, and give each team a bit more space to spawn in.
-"Replaced" the computer room with a small resupply-cubby, since there was no space to just add the old one back where it was..!

-Tore down the fence behind spawn! Also, moved the old computer room and original resupply cubby back here for aesthetics.
-Added a "White Room" - akin to GMod, just to take pictures in or get lost in.
-Added a "Target Practice" room - for testing weapons (of course). The Targets pop back up quickly after you shoot them.

-[OPTIONAL] Included a .nav mesh for TFBots and a basic, barebones .cfg with some helpful settings!

Phew, even that was a mouthful. It simultaneously feels like I did a lot - but also not much at all. I've no doubt a more experienced mapper could have done this in a day, or less, but as my first proper edited map (Wiseau is an exception! That was mostly just entity work!), I suppose I'm happy with what I got done in about a week.



All this ramblin' was to say, I hope this map will prove helpful for your own testing endeavors! It's not very glamorous compared to other maps with say, actual objectives, but I hope this one will be useful - and aesthetically pleasing to wander in!

Editing of Improved Itemtest, from which I cribbed a very minimal few aspects
Whoever on OF Team that was responsible for the DM_Dev_Itemtest Targets
Those were a nightmare. I very much appreciate whoever it was specifically made working Targets for that map.
