but also with the feedback we received, some parts of the stage have been modified
Here is a new stage mod for Sonic Mania: Coral Cave zone from Sonic Rush Adventure!
Me and MewDude94andKnuckles created this stage using existing assets and created brand new ones to improve the levels quality. We also included gimmicks that were present in the original as well as a few unique ones.
There are many secrets hidden throughout both acts, so I Recommend trying multiple characters to find them all. We created a completely unique background for act 2, to fit with the cavern aspect of the zone. I also recommend using MewDude94andKnuckles's Blaze mod with this for the best experience.
how is no one complaining about the level design?! the paths leading to spikes that cannot be predicted on a first run?! the bottomless pits in the main boss fight, made much worse by the platforms becoming nearly unseeable when they move down?! the badniks that are placed right where the player lands after falling in one of the areas?! the badnik that is placed in a manner that sonic (especially) will get hit by every time he tries to jump forward and gain height in one of the underwater sections, as it works in a manner that he'll get hit AGAIN when he tries to recover and jump back up?! this mod gets so much right, but the level design is a punch in the crotch! was this an oversight? or are you intentionally trying to get away with layouts that are overly reliant on the trial and error mentality?!
So my only two pet peeves with the level design I found are straight spikes hidden by coral reef right at the exit of a shuttle loop that I don't think anyone can react to in time, and that one pool of water was bottomless when others hide Special Rings, I don't know if some kind of more obvious clues would help rather than removing the trap entirely, but I suggest doing something about it.
Other than that, the foreground (the inside of the ground you can step on - check your second picture, it's dark for the below half) is just pure dark, and can get boring specially when on the elevator and you get the screen black for a second. I suggest adding more foreground graphics to alleviate this issue.
Now the good parts, nicely looped music, creative use of gimmicks, nice welcome surprises, it makes you want to explore, water doesn't get in the way, overall a huge effort and I can't ignore that, great job.
